Of course, all these components make a place a touristic destination and are going to be used by the tourists. Infrastructure is needed as well as certain adaptation of locals. If all necessary resources are given, what should argue against tourism as a motor of local economy and way of development? But on the other hand, a not successfully or towards sustainability directed management of a touristic destination may cause impacts destroying all these attractions irreparable. Even with all precautions against negative impacts taken, nothing can prevent a community from them. Is the average tourist aware of water being a rare resource, especially in the country of his or her vacations? Is the government of any country willing to restrict income and tax revenue provided by tourism to prevent nature from damage? And can anybody expect concerns about sustainability if a destination just started its rise in international tourism? By writing this assignment I am going to take a closer look on the impacts, which were caused by the development of tourism on the most famous Balearic Island, Majorca. The first chapter will deal with general information about the island, the second one will give an overview about the history of tourism and finally the third chapter will deviate possible and existing economical, social and environmental impacts of tourism on Majorca. Finally I will give a brief conclusion about Majorca as a destination impacted by tourism.

The indigenous population of Deià has lived side by side with increasing numbers of foreigners over the past century, and what has occurred there over this period offers an example of how the population of one Mediterranean village has gained full advantage from the economic opportunities opened up by foreign investments, without losing the fabric of social relations, the meaning and values of their culture. Deià has been able to continue as a community with its own symbolic boundaries and identity, not in spite of the outsiders (some of whom are well-known literary personalities, artists and musicians) but because of their presence. This study shows how, under the impact of wars, migration, national politics, global economic and technological developments and especially tourism, the categories of Insider and Outsider are contracted and expanded, and reinterpreted to fit the constantly changing "reality" of the society; they assume different meanings at different times. The conflicts and resulting compromises over a hundred-year period have provided a sense of history that allows each group to define, develop, adapt and sustain their sense of belonging to their own communities.

This guidebook describes the GR221, a 140km (87 mile) long-distance trail through northwestern Mallorca, from Port d'Andratx to Pollença. Also known as the 'Ruta de Pedra en Sec' ('the Drystone Route'), the GR221 is a celebration of Mallorca's limestone heritage, taking in many historic drystone structures as it traverses the rocky peaks of the Serra de Tramuntana. Following old stone-paved paths and mule trails, it showcases the region's beautiful landscape of mountains, forests and cultivated terraces, as well as its spectacular coastline. The GR221 can be walked in 1-2 weeks, although the guide also covers 3 alternative start-points and 3 alternative finishes, which would allow for a shorter trek. The main route is presented in 10 stages of 8.5-20.5km (5-13 miles), with a handful of optional detours to bag neighbouring summits. Detailed route description is accompanied by 1:25,000 mapping and inspirational photography, plus a wealth of information on local points of interest. Accommodation and travel are also thoroughly covered: the trail boasts good transport links and plentiful facilities on route, with accommodation in welcoming mountain villages and the occasional 'refugi'. A comprehensive introduction offers the opportunity to discover more about the region's diverse plants and wildlife and unique history and culture, and an English-Spanish-Catalan glossary can be found in the appendix. With a favourable climate and stunning scenery, the Serra de Tramuntana has much to tempt the walker. The GR221 Drystone Route represents an ideal way to explore this fascinating World Heritage Site.
