Have you heard anything "Straight from horse's mouth" except their neighing? Despite the popular phrase being used regularly, no one has been fortunate enough to do so literally. Here I am going to narrate a magnificent story of a great knowledge expressed through the horse's mouth. The person doing so is famous Dadhichi, the great sage sacrificing his body for creation of Vajra, the weapon used by Indra to defeat Vritra, the demon. Dadhichi is also known as the authority in the knowledge of Madhu Vidya, the honey doctrine. Indra threatened him to not teach this Vidya to anybody else. Ashwini Duo, the great physicians replaced his original head by a horse's head. Dadhichi spoke the knowledge to Ashwini Duo from horse's head. Angry Indra cut this head. Then, Ashwini duo implanted original head to Dadhichi to make him alive again. Madhu Vidya is a magnificent statement of the Upanishad. In Chhandogya Upanishad, it is explained as the nectar or essence extracted from all books of knowledge including Vedas, Brahmans, Upanishads and books of History and Purana just like the honey, which is extracted by bees from flowers. As these books themselves provide essence of knowledge, Madhu Vidya is nectar of nectar of all wisdom. In Bṛihadaraṇyaka Upanishad, it tells us that everything is organically related to and so mutually dependent on everything else in the world. This link is through the Universal Super Consciousness pervading both animate and inanimate beings in the world. When a honey bee extracts honey from any type of flora or fauna, it also provides very important service of pollination to that plant. There is similar mutual dependence between everyone and everything. This magnificent theme of mutual support between all elements of nature is Madhu-Vidya. The inanimate things in nature such as Air, Soil, Sun, Rain, Water should not be considered as mere objects for our use, but they need our regular support and conservation. Only then, they will be able to continuously help and support the humanity. This eternal wisdom is very significant in modern world as the basis of sustainable development. This book not only narrates the magical stories linking the three characters Indra, Dadhichi and Ashwini, but also explains the Madhu Vidya from Upanishads and Brahmans. Madhu Vidya is one of the Brahma Vidyas, meditation on which leads to both Saguna and Nirguna Brahma, and so to great wisdom. I invite you to explore the magnificent wisdom of Madhu Vidya directly from the horse's head.

Cause Divine explores the history of vedic thought on a subject that has globally perplexed man - the first cause, the first principle. The book exploits Brahma Sutra as the central theme wherein began the formal quest for the first divine cause. Extracts from Vedas and Upanishads supports the topic, providing a genuine insight into questions around the birth of this universe, our role on this planet and thereafter, oneness of god in everything and the true yoga of meditation. The ancient seers were extremely earnest in their desire for the truth and provided an eternal covenant that lay concealed in the realms of the sacred lore of the Vedas and Vedanta. The book follows the style of a ballad - numbered, referenced stanzas. The book may appear terse and fragmented in the beginning with some alien names and conjectures. As the contents unfold, the theme becomes evident providing a genuine, simple translation of what the forepersons saw, witnessed, practiced, underwent, and left for us a means to continue that wonderful, spiritual experience. Cause Divine is strictly a philosophy and Brahma per-se is not a deity; Brahma is the name of a transcendental being who is considered the first cause. Cause-Divine disambiguates him from any god or deity.

“Let there be unprecedented floods in Vraj!” roared Indra. “Deluge them! I want every single person of this foolish little village to drown and die! Let them pay for offending Purandar, the mighty Indra – the king of Devlok!” The world considers Indra to be the name of the king of the Devas. However, not many people know that Indra is not a name. It is a title, an appellation accorded to one who rules over Devlok, the realm of the Devas. In each Manvantar (the 14th fraction of a Kalpa), a new king is appointed to the throne of Devlok, who is then called “Indra”. The “Indra” of the current Manvantar is “Purandar”. Purandar―the son of Kashyap and Aditi―ascended the throne of Devlok because of certain remarkable traits he had and some grand accomplishments he achieved. However, his appalling misdeeds diminish his glory and consequently, he could never garner the respect and obeisance that a king of Gods would otherwise command! Unfortunately, Indra himself seemed oblivious to the many blots on his character and appeared concerned only about keeping his throne. To maintain his claim over it, he repeatedly abused his power and supremacy, and remained totally unrepentant of his incessant misdemeanours. Several interesting but lesser-known events and anecdotes have been interwoven into this compelling tale to bring out the capricious yet imposing personality of Indra, presenting a completely fresh facet of Puranic mythology. It is a pleasant experience to read the brilliant analysis of Puranic tales through Ashutosh’s charismatic writing! ―Ashok Chakradhar, Padma Shri awardee author, litterateur and poet

Modern Science has only recently stumbled upon the truth that the underlying cause for existence is the realisation of Universal Consciousness. Whether it is the contribution of physics, biology, medicine, neurobiology, psychology or other branches of science, the ongoing efforts are entirely an attempt to understand this universal consciousness. However, these ideas are not new: and they have their roots in the Rig Veda, the world’s first book. It deals with Consciousness in entirety. Compiled by the Angirasa Rishis, the Rig Veda is an exposition of the route one can follow to successfully merge the Individual Consciousness and the Universal Consciousness. Gleanings from Rig Veda are an attempt to cull out these transient understandings from centuries ago.
