Two complete novels by the author of Bank Error in Your Favor and The Killing Song Out Of Their Element-and Trapped Beyond Time! Carson Adkins had no doubt he was born unlucky, especially after his college folded one semester before graduation-but he never expected to find himself caught deep in the heart of an uncharted land sheltered against the passage of time for decades! Compelled to struggle for survival against terrifying odds and unfamiliar threats, Carson finds himself in a world he never expected, where every encounter forces him to confront deadly opponents and difficult truths. When the alluring Delilah Munson joins his journey, Carson believes he may finally have discovered something worth fighting for-but as he soon discovers, this opaque backwoods jewel has her own agenda, not to mention the will to carry it out. Torn between two worlds, can the fragile yet ever-growing attraction between a rural princess and a modern man far from home possibly survive in the face of a cataclysmic conflict far beyond the bounds of anything either could ever have imagined? SUPERHEROES FOR THE SOCIAL MEDIA ERA Many long years have passed since superspeedster Jack Quick mothballed his costume, but when he receives a desperate call from a troubled former teammate, Jack has no choice but to don his running suit, dash to his old friend's side, and put the call out to reform their old team, the Fighters. However, little is as it appears in this strange world of heroes and villains-and when the new breed fails to live up to the old guard, will Jack side with his old friend or choose justice? The Drenai stronghold had fallen. Now blood-hungry Nadir hordes spread desolation and despair across all the lands... ...even tiny Gothir, where slavers seized a young girl while the villagers looked the other way--all but the peasant boy Kiall. His unlikely rescue attempt would lead across the savage steppes and on through the Halls of Hell. The youth would face ferocious beasts, deadly warriors, and demons of the dark; he would emerge a man--or not emerge at all. But Kiall would not face these dangers alone. Heroes out of legend joined his quest: Chareos the Blademaster, Beltzer the Axeman, and the bowmen Finn and Maggrig. And one among their company hid a secret that could free the world of Nadir domination. That one was the Nadir Bane, the hope of the Drenai. That one was the Earl of Bronze. Thus did a search for a stolen slave girl become a quest that would shake the very world.

This book studies the interplay of theology and poetics in the three great epics of early-modern England: the Faerie Queene, Paradise Lost, and Paradise Regained. Bond examines the relationship between the poems’ primary heroes, Arthur and the Son, who are godlike, virtuous, and powerful, and the secondary heroes, Redcrosse and Adam, who are human, fallible, and weak. He looks back at the development of this pattern of dual heroism in classical, Medieval, and Italian Renaissance literature, investigates the ways in which Spenser and Milton adapted the model, and demonstrates how the Jesus of Paradise Regained can be seen as the culmination of this tradition. Challenging the opposition between “Calvinist,” “allegorical” Spenser and “Arminian,” “dramatic” Milton, this book offers a new account of their doctrinal and literary affinities within the European epic tradition. Arguing that Spenser influenced Milton in fundamental ways, Bond establishes a firmer structural and thematic link between the two authors, and shows how they transformed a strongly antifeminist genre by the addition of a crucial, although at times ambivalent, heroine. He also proposes solutions to some of the most difficult and controversial theological cruxes posed by these poems, in particular Spenser’s attitude to free will and Milton’s to the Trinity. By providing a deeper understanding of the religious agendas of these epics, this book encourages a rapprochement between scholarly approaches that are too narrowly concerned with either theology or poetics.
