The Red Ball Express is the nickname given by the Americans to the supply route established between the landing beaches and the frontline, first in the Cotentin in Normandy and then throughout France. While awaiting final repairs to the rail network, the road was the only way to supply the 28 Allied divisions each in need of 750 tons of supplies each day, for a total of 12,500 tons daily. Red Ball Express describes accurately all the logistical means implemented by the U.S. Army Liberty ships to the railway through the floating ports and GMC trucks. This book is the first substantial book devoted to American logistical effort during the Second World War, offering detailed descriptions of logistical methods, tactics, techniques and more. THIS BOOK IS IN ENGLISH. SELLING POINTS: * An in-depth look at the American logistical effort during the Second World War. Illustrated

Spearhead of Logistics is a narrative branch history of the U.S. Army's Transportation Corps, first published in 1994 for transportation personnel and reprinted in 2001 for the larger Army community. The Quartermaster Department coordinated transportation support for the Army until World War I revealed the need for a dedicated corps of specialists. The newly established Transportation Corps, however, lasted for only a few years. Its significant utility for coordinating military transportation became again transparent during World War II, and it was resurrected in mid-1942 to meet the unparalleled logistical demands of fighting in distant theaters. Finally becoming a permanent branch in 1950, the Transportation Corps continued to demonstrate its capability of rapidly supporting U.S. Army operations in global theaters over the next fifty years. With useful lessons of high-quality support that validate the necessity of adequate transportation in a viable national defense posture, it is an important resource for those now involved in military transportation and movement for ongoing expeditionary operations. This text should be useful to both officers and noncommissioned officers who can take examples from the past and apply the successful principles to future operations, thus ensuring a continuing legacy of Transportation excellence within Army operations. Additionally, military science students and military historians may be interested in this volume.

Freight Forwarding and Multimodal Transport Contracts, 2nd Edition, is a comprehensive guide to the law in relation to contract forms and terms created by operators, trade associations or international bodies such as the UN and used as a basis for trading conditions by freight forwarders, logistics suppliers, combined or multimodal transport operators and container operators. This second edition examines the latest editions of contract forms and terms, both where their object is the supply or procurement of multimodal carriage, as well as where they are directed to the use of combined transport equipment (ie containers, swap bodies). Of particular prominence will be a detailed examination of the latest versions of conditions used by the principal UK forwarding, logistics, intermodal and container operators such as the British International Freight Association (BIFA) conditions 2005A and the current Freightliner Conditions as well as updates on many of the conditions in use and legal developments relevant to them, eg Road Haulage Association Conditions 2009, Maersk Conditions of Carriage, TT Club Conditions.

"Professor Burns has captured the essence of transportation security, one of today's most pressing concerns. As the rate of globalization and world trade increases, security and supply chain resilience are at the core of one‘s global transportation network. This is a timely and well written contribution to the industry." John A. Moseley, Senior Dir

Though the efficient movement of men, supplies, and equipment was a fundamental component of the civil war, Earl J. Hess’s Civil War Logistics is the first comprehensive study of the logistical systems that allowed the Union and Confederate armies to wage war. According to Hess, the Federal logistical effort was far more successful than the Confederate attempt to move and supply southern armies. This was due mainly to limited resources in the South but also to the North’s administrative management and a willingness to seize transportation resources when it needed them. Hess concludes that the logistical superiority of the northern forces laid a vital foundation for Union victory in the Civil War.
