I heard him give the word Forward' with a cool and determined voice - so much so, that all argument ceased, and the cortege advanced. I did not proceed with them, for my atten tion was rivetted on the convulsed faces of the wounded, who were being carried away for assistance, and I did not like to leave the body of the little girl, who had fallen by my side so instantaneously struck by death.
