The world needs new Christian leaders guided by goodness, ready to love and heal the world. As our planet, democracy, communities, neighborhoods, churches and families fall into crisis, Jesus searches for servant leaders who will respond. Will we heed Jesus' call? Will good Christian leaders rise up and stand in the gap? As Fredrick Buechner once said, "The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet." This book, Letters to Rising Leaders, is a clarion call to the next generation of leaders- to become leaders grounded in God, focused on others and ready to serve. To those who feel called to rise to the needs of this world, it is my hope you will find both encouragement and challenge in the pages of this book. Leadership is hard. It starts on the inside. To become a leader of goodness takes discipline, humility and commitment. This book is offered to you as help for the journey. It is my prayer that you will embark on a soul walk with God, and then will take up God's call to love and heal the world.

This book is not really 'my' letters to the next generation but rather Paul's, the Apostle, the master architect of the early church, writing to his young mentee, Timothy. I have attempted to simply translate his thoughts, verse by verse, into our world today to help build new young ministers on the Word of God. It is my commentary on 1st & 2nd Timothy. The Word needs to be the foundation of our ministries. Too many have started well, yet not lasted the distance. As we pattern our leadership on the Word and not just management journals and leadership manuals, I'm convinced we are all better equipped to face all the challenges of building the eternal church. Many also are needing to discover the power of the Word to fulfill their destiny deep within. As we live in pathways laid down by the Apostle, the same blessing that rested on him, will be found on ourselves.

Wikipedia states that "Leadership is both a research area and a practical skill, regarding the ability of an individual or organization to "lead" or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations..." As leaders, we are exposed to leadership principles in an academic setting; but great leadership skills are only achieved by a commitment to hard work, learning from mistakes, staying grounded, perseverance, and time. Successful leadership skills come from the fundamental principles of keeping things simple, understandable, breaking down concepts into manageable and meaningful components. This writing is focused on breaking down the word "Leadership" by the Letters and highlighting major themes, traits, concepts, skills, and approaches that can provide a framework and a road map to a long-term sustainable and successful leadership style.

Wherever they settled, immigrants from Ireland and their descendants shaped and reshaped their understanding of being Irish in response to circumstances in both the old and new worlds. In A Land of Dreams, Patrick Mannion analyzes and compares the evolution of Irish identity in three communities on the prow of northeastern North America: St John’s, Newfoundland, Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Portland, Maine, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. These three port cities, home to diverse Irish populations in different stages of development and in different national contexts, provide a fascinating setting for a study of intergenerational ethnicity. Mannion traces how Irishness could, at certain points, form the basis of a strong, cohesive identity among Catholics of Irish descent, while at other times it faded into the background. Although there was a consistent, often romantic gaze across the Atlantic to the old land, many of the organizations that helped mediate large-scale public engagement with the affairs of Ireland – especially Irish nationalist associations – spread from further west on the North American mainland. Irish ethnicity did not, therefore, develop in isolation, but rather as a result of a complex interplay of local, regional, national, and transnational networks. This volume shows that despite a growing generational distance, Ireland remained “a land of dreams” for many immigrants and their descendants. They were connected to a transnational Irish diaspora well into the twentieth century.

The legendary New York Times bestselling tale of top-down change for anyone trying to navigate today's uncertain business seas. When Captain Abrashoff took over as commander of USS Benfold, it was like a business that had all the latest technology but only some of the productivity. Knowing that responsibility for improving performance rested with him, he realized he had to improve his own leadership skills before he could improve his ship. Within months, he created a crew of confident and inspired problem-solvers eager to take the initiative and responsibility for their actions. The slogan on board became "It's your ship," and Benfold was soon recognized far and wide as a model of naval efficiency. How did Abrashoff do it? Against the backdrop of today's United States Navy, Abrashoff shares his secrets of successful management including: See the ship through the eyes of the crew: By soliciting a sailor's suggestions, Abrashoff drastically reduced tedious chores that provided little additional value. Communicate, communicate, communicate: The more Abrashoff communicated the plan, the better the crew's performance. His crew eventually started calling him "Megaphone Mike," since they heard from him so often. Create discipline by focusing on purpose: Discipline skyrocketed when Abrashoff's crew believed that what they were doing was important. Listen aggressively: After learning that many sailors wanted to use the GI Bill, Abrashoff brought a test official aboard the ship-and held the SATs forty miles off the Iraqi coast. From achieving amazing cost savings to winning the highest gunnery score in the Pacific Fleet, Captain Abrashoff's extraordinary campaign sent shock waves through the U.S. Navy. It can help you change the course of your ship, no matter where your business battles are fought.
