Transcription of 9 letters from John Quincy Adams to his son George Washington Adams on the Bible and its teachings, originally written from St. Petersburg, Russia, 8 Sept. 1811-Sept. 1813, here transcribed in a mid-19th-century hand. The text is not that of the edition published under the title "Letters of John Quincy Adams, to his son, on the Bible and its teachings" (Auburn, N.Y. : Derby, Miller, & Co., 1848), which was lightly edited and modernized, but evidently a more direct transcription of the original letters, e.g. the first sentence of the first letter (capitalization retained), "In your Letter of the 18th of January to your Mamma you mentioned that you read to your Aunt Cranch, a chapter in the Bible, or a section in Dr Doddridges annotations every evening." The published version reads: "In your letter of the 18th January to your mother, you mentioned that you read to your aunt a chapter in the Bible or a section of Doddridge's Annotations every evening."

This book gives you a perspective on The Bible like you've never had before. It's a collection of nine heartfelt letters written by the sixth president of the United States, John Quincy Adams, to his teenage son. "Their purpose is the inculcation of love and reverence for the Holy Scriptures, and a delight in their perusal and study." These letters are disarmingly honest and persuasive. If you find yourself identifying with the son, young and passionate about understanding the holy scriptures, this book will give you fatherly advice from a profoundly knowledgeable man. And if you're on the father side, wanting to impress faith and teachings from the bible upon your children, this book is a perfect example for how to do it. From the letters: "No book in the world deserves to be so unceasingly studied, and so profoundly meditated upon as The Bible." "It is of all books in the world, that which contributes most to make men good, wise, and happy." "It is an invaluable and inexhaustible mine of knowledge and virtue."This book gives you a perspective on The Bible like you've never had before.
