This document is in the hand of William Duer, but the last sentence on page 3 is written by Knox, who also signed it. States that Duer and Knox accede to the forming of a French colony on their land in Maine, probably in reference to Madame de la Val and Mr. de la Roche's inquiries. Proclaims a need for the boundaries of the colony to be precise. The two parties still need to describe the number of rations that need to be purchased and their price, the number and size of the houses to be built, and the price of the land. Reports that The Subscriber is of Opinion that a Vessell from New York to the lands in question will not be necessary, as enough ships make frequent trips along the coast already. The ultimate agreement is to be drawn immediately after the lands have been viewed and approved.

Agreement of Knox and Duer to purchase lands in the District of Maine from the state of Massachusetts. Written in Duer's hand. The major stipulations include: an equal stake in the investment for both parties, a desire to pay only 12 cents per acre in no less than five annual installments, that only Knox and Duer are directors of this purchase with William Constable being given the option to join them during a six-month period after the purchase, and that Henry Jackson and Royal Flint are to serve as agents for the purchase. Goes on to provide stipulations that subordinate parties will have to abide by if they invest in this purchase. Duer's own signature is at the bottom of page 5, along with his copied signatures of Henry Knox, Henry Jackson, and John Lane.

Also includes details on the land agreements involving Madame de Leval and Monsieur la Roche. In the first correspondence, dated 12 September 1792, Duer writes to Jackson and Flint discussing a contract he drew up for Knox involving land deals between Knox, Roche and Leval. The second letter, dated 13 September 1792, Flint forwards a packet (not included) to Jackson which was originally between Knox and Duer. The packet includes an agreement that Knox , Duer, Leval and Roche. Believes the arrangement will prove of utility in rendering our speculation in Eastern Land a profitable operation. Trusts that Jackson will use his influence with the Committee to approve and finalize the agreement. Lists the remaining items that are included in the packet and notes the mortgages that Leval needs to give to Jackson. In third document, dated 13 September 1792, Flint writes to Jackson regarding an agreement between Leval and Duer. Specifies which sections of land need to be sold to Leval and notes the mortgage and bonds for all of the lands that will be given to Jackson. Instructs Jackson requests from the Committee that they give them a title to one or more townships whenever they pay double the original price contracted. The fourth document lists out Leval's propositions regarding her land deal with Duer and Knox, along with Duer's answers to Leval's propositions. The bottom section includes a section from Knox authorizing Duer to empower Jackson and Flint to draw up a new contract according to the new provisions listed by Leval and Duer. Includes a notary, dated 6 September 1792, by John Reese certifying that the writing produced by William Duer is a true copy. The last document, signed by Flint and Jackson on 12 September 1792, is a contract between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Leval and Roche for the immediate settlement of lands. Leval and Roche agree to purchase 300,000 acres of land for the purpose of settling at 20 cents per acre plus interest. The above sum of 20 cents per acre, one moiety, will then be credited to the two last installments due to Messrs Jackson and Flint.

Duer reports he offered D'Espremenil a part of township 7 before he sold his stake in the Eastern Lands to Knox and William Bingham. This was done because D'Espremenil ceded lands in the Scioto purchase and became a sutler there. Believes this was a fair deal and hopes Knox and Bingham will live up to the agreement.

Relates that by the last post, he received the deed from Henry Jackson, and he will have it copied and sent to Colonel Walker on Monday. Wants to know if he has any plans or prospects relative to a sale.
