These volumes of Methods in Enzymology contain the protocols that made up the on-line Methods Navigator. Our philosophy when we selected the protocols to include in the Navigator was that they should be for techniques useful in any biomedical laboratory, regardless of the system the lab studies. Each protocol was written by researchers who use the technique routinely, and in many cases by the people who actually developed the procedure in the first place. The protocols are very detailed and contain recipes for the necessary buffers and reagents, as well as flow-charts outlining the steps involved. Many of the chapters have accompanying videos demonstrating key parts of the procedures. The volumes are broken into distinct areas: DNA methods; Cell-based methods; lipid, carbohydrate and miscellaneous methods; RNA methods; Protein methods. Our goal is that these protocols will be useful for everyone in the lab, from undergraduates and rotation students to seasoned post-doctoral fellows. We hope that these volumes will become dog-eared and well-worn in your laboratory, either physically or electronically.

The critically acclaimed laboratory standard for almost 50 years, Methods in Enzymology is one of the most highly respected publications in the field of biochemistry. Each volume is eagerly awaited, frequently consulted, and praised by researchers and reviewers alike. Now with over 520 volumes and 40,000 chapters in the collection, much of the material is still relevant today and is truly an essential publication for researchers in all fields of life sciences, including microbiology, biochemistry, cancer research, and genetics, just to name a few. In this volume, number 545, we have brought together a number of core protocols concentrating on protein, carefully written and edited by experts. Indispensable tool for the researcher Carefully written and edited by experts to contain step-by-step protocols Brings together a number of core protocols concentrating on protein

The protocols are very detailed and contain recipes for the necessary buffers and reagents, as well as flow-charts outlining the steps involved. Many of the chapters have accompanying videos demonstrating key parts of the procedures. In a few cases, detailed protocols for certain important approaches could not be generated either because they are instrument-specific (e.g., next-generation sequencing) or because they are proprietary (e.g., column-based nucleic acid purifications). In these cases we have included "explanatory chapters" that outline the theoretical basis for each technique without giving a detailed protocol. Download Electrophoresis of Enzymes Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
In the last decades, very detailed work has been carried out on the classical electrophoresis of enzymes and isoenzymes. Despite modern PCR techniques, enzymes remain important as post-transcriptional and translational products of an organism's DNA and as enzymic and structural components of the cell. This book compiles facts and methods on classical and modern techniques of enzyme and protein electrophoresis widely dispersed in hundreds of publications. The author summarizes them in clearly readable tables, in many carefully worked out separation- and more than 140 staining protocols. He also supports the reader in the interpretation of enzyme patterns with respect to population genetics and evolutionary studies. Illustrations and marginal notes facilitate quick and informative reading.
