Punk rock ethics and philosophy are to question everything, do not except things just because you are told to do so, but instead learn about them yourself so that YOU can make your own decisions. And contrary to popular belief Punk is not about being lazy, it's about D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself). It's about not conforming to the norm! Punk rock also has a very freestyle spirit, it's about being different, distinct, not like everybody else! This is what originally attracted me to Punk rock and later the Gothic rock movement. Being L.D.S. (Latter-day Saint) is also about questioning everything, up to and including our eternal heavenly father. It's about not being what the world expects you to be. But instead standing up for what is right and not ignoring what is wrong! And through the course of this, being different and distinct is a way of life in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. If this is not Punk Rock, I don't know what is? This is my story that has taken me from Catholicism to Mormonism, from Paganism to Buddhism and from crazy punk rock insanity to dark, morbid, gothic rock death & gloom. Then on to Pentecostal/Evangelical Christianity and finally back to just me and my personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It's a story about searching for answers, especially the age, old questions of: who are we? Where do we come from? And where do we go after we die? It's about trusting our heavenly father and realizing that Jesus Christ really loves us and deeply cares about our well being both temporal and spiritual. Most importantly it's about developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, he is here for us no matter what we do and wants us to be happy and for this reason died for us, so that we could be set free. To give us a chance to be happy, to be with him...

Download Seditious Theology Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Seditious Theology explores the much analysed British punk movement of the 1970s from a theological perspective. Imaginatively engaging with subjects such as subversion, deconstruction, confrontation and sedition, this book highlights the stark contrasts between the punk genre and the ministry of Jesus while revealing surprising similarities and, in so doing, demonstrates how we may look at both subjects in fresh and unusual ways. Johnson looks at both punk and Jesus and their challenges to symbols, gestures of revolt, constructive use of conflict and the shattering of relational norms. He then points to the seditious pattern in Jesus' life and the way it can be discerned in some recent trends in theology. The imaginative images that he creates provide a challenging image of Jesus and of those who have relooked radically in recent years at what being a ’seditious’ follower of Christ means for the church. Introducing both a new partner for theological conversation and a fresh way of how to go about the task, this book presents a powerful approach to exploring the life of Christ and a new way of engaging with both recent theological trends and the more challenging expressions of popular culture.

From an early age Joey had a tough childhood, by the time he was a teen, he had endured years of sickness, abuse, confusion and some good times. At thirteen, he ran away from home to look for a better life but found only trouble. Not long after, he began to drink and use drugs. At sixteen he lived on the streets full time and hitchhiked around the United States. For a decade he wandered aimlessly. Joe recalled a time when he took a hit of purple microdot LSD and tripped all night long. He saw an uninterrupted stream of pictures and shapes with a beautiful, kaleidoscopic play of colors which streamed on the walls and ceiling in a circular motion around the room. It was a long slow bad trip. He felt dirty, in need of a shower, and bad about the general direction of his life. About eight hours later the trip faded away and he finally passed out. When Joe revived his body early the next day, he squinted and pulled back the curtains. The world was covered in ice from the storm; there wasn't a cloud in the sky and the morning sun reflected off everything. It hurt his eyes but it was a beautiful sight. He opened the window to get some air. It was cold and crisp and it felt good as the freshness filled his lungs. "A new day had dawned." After seventeen years of drug and self-inflicted abuse Joe cried out to Jesus Christ for help. He asked Him, if he was real, then come down from heaven and set him free. He did! A few weeks later on Palm Sunday Joe attended a church service and it was on that day that God revealed himself to him even more. At the end of the service as everyone was leaving, the church prophet made a loud statement; "If you have not been baptize with the Holy Ghost you're missing out on everything good God has for you!" As Joe was almost at the church exit he heard the words of the prophet. He walked back to the altar, stood in front of the man of God, held out his right hand, and said; "I'll take me a Holy Ghost!" The prophet poured oil on Joe's head and prayed for him. He heard and felt powerful waves of energy rip through his body and felt as if he floated. Time seemed to have paused. He felt darkness leave his body. After a while the wonderful experience lifted. Joe felt a sense of awe and pureness. He took a few minutes to regain his composure, then slowly walked down the aisle, opened the church doors and stood at the entrance. The atmosphere was illuminated and he felt pure and peaceful. "A new day had dawned." Later that night when Joe went back for the evening service, he saw the church filled-up with a see through golden fog.

Growing up Mormon during America's early-1980s satanic panic, Bigelow escapes the religion's bland conformity by playing Dungeons & Dragons. After graduating from high school in 1984, he dives into sex, drugs, and the counterculture via Salt Lake City's punk and new-wave scenes, as echoed from London, New York, and especially Los Angeles. As Bigelow explores the underground, he rejects myths of supernatural good vs. evil, living instead by the D&D concept of chaotic neutrality. During LSD trips, however, he starts sensing an unseen dimension. Then Stephen King's post-apocalyptic novel The Stand gets him reconsidering good vs. evil. After an alarming otherworldly attack, can Bigelow find spiritual protection in Mormonism's processed, regimented, corporate culture?

American Millennials--the generation born in the 1980s and 1990s--have been leaving organized religion in unprecedented numbers. For a long time, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was an exception: nearly three-quarters of people who grew up Mormon stayed that way into adulthood. In The Next Mormons, Jana Riess demonstrates that things are starting to change. Drawing on a large-scale national study of four generations of current and former Mormons as well as dozens of in-depth personal interviews, Riess explores the religious beliefs and behaviors of young adult Mormons, finding that while their levels of belief remain strong, their institutional loyalties are less certain than their parents' and grandparents'. For a growing number of Millennials, the tensions between the Church's conservative ideals and their generation's commitment to individualism and pluralism prove too high, causing them to leave the faith-often experiencing deep personal anguish in the process. Those who remain within the fold are attempting to carefully balance the Church's strong emphasis on the traditional family with their generation's more inclusive definition that celebrates same-sex couples and women's equality. Mormon families are changing too. More Mormons are remaining single, parents are having fewer children, and more women are working outside the home than a generation ago. The Next Mormons offers a portrait of a generation navigating between traditional religion and a rapidly changing culture.
