Waveform Politics Ten is the final volume of contemporary history essays on empirical and philosophical topics from an ordinary American citizen's point of view. The wave forms in the title refer to the broadcast media's ubiquitous adverse conditioning of U.S. mass political thought. Volume One named 'Fade Into History/ started with essays written in 1999 and later with subsequent volumes viewing a panoramic presentation of concerns from the 9-11 attacks to major sociological restructuring of American moral concerns. From two foreign military engagements lasting most of the first decade of the third millennium to restructuring of the U.S. and Global economy the Waveform Politics series collects the experience of contemporary U.S. history interactively rather than retroactively.

The US National Space Policy released by the president in 2006 states that the US government should "develop space professionals." As an integral part of that endeavor, "AU-18, Space Primer", provides to the joint war fighter an unclassified resource for understanding the capabilities, organizations, and operations of space forces. This primer is a useful tool both for individuals who are not "space aware"-unacquainted with space capabilities, organizations, and operations-and for those who are "space aware," especially individuals associated with the space community, but not familiar with space capabilities, organizations, and operations outside their particular areas of expertise. It is your guide and your invitation to all the excitement and opportunity of space. Last published in 1993, this updated version of the Space Primer has been made possible by combined efforts of the Air Command and Staff College's academic year 2008 "Jointspacemindedness" and "Operational Space" research seminars, as well as select members of the academic year 2009 "Advanced Space" research seminar. "The idea that warfare is changing drastically has garnered significant attention over the past few decades. Some commentators contend that such change is revolutionary, that warfare is entering a new era. Indeed, many historians, sociologists, and even practitioners of warfare argue that the entire history of human kind is entering a new era. A plethora of descriptors exist to describe such change, including terms such as the information age, the end of history, fourth generation warfare, or the postmodern epoch. Current events often serve as the basis for pundits to sound these calls of change. New technologies, developments in international politics, and changes in civil - military relationships seem to arrive quickly and promise unending alterations to society. However, a proper assessment of these developments must rely on a theory - based analysis. Furthermore, this assessment must be cognizant of great historical continuities in war and politics. These diverse descriptors of change have certain elements in common that deserve such a rigorous analysis grounded in theory. Namely, they tend to include discourse about postmodernist relativism, post - nationalism, and post - industrialism. This discourse often revolves around the nature of conflict itself, changes in global politics and civil - military relations, and novel technological innovation. Such changes can be more easily understood and assessed if they are bundled into a clear, coherent concept of postmodern warfare. Postmodern warfare clarifies the meaning of postmodernism and its war - related dimensions, and applies theory to current developments in order to understand them and make appropriate judgments. Postmodern warfare is comprised of identity - based politics, post - national global political structures, and post - industrial technology. Despite ubiquitous clamors of revolutionary change, postmodern warfare is out of sight, beyond the horizon. Nonetheless, a clear understanding of what postmodern warfare is helps leaders develop a plan for action and decision. "--Abstract.

In Noise from the Writing Center, Boquet develops a theory of "noise" and excess as an important element of difference between the pedagogy of writing centers and the academy in general. Addressing administrative issues, Boquet strains against the bean-counting anxiety that seems to drive so much of writing center administration. Pedagogically, she urges a more courageous practice, developed via metaphors of music and improvisation, and argues for "noise," excess, and performance as uniquely appropriate to the education of writers and tutors in the center. Personal, even irreverent in style, Boquet is also theoretically sophisticated, and she draws from an eclectic range of work in academic and popular culture-from Foucault to Attali to Jimi Hendrix. She includes, as well, the voices of writing center tutors with whom she conducted research, and she finds some of her most inspiring moments in the words and work of those tutors.

This book presents a comprehensive overview and analysis of mangrove ecological processes, structure, and function at the local, biogeographic, and global scales and how these properties interact to provide key ecosystem services to society. The analysis is based on an international collaborative effort that focuses on regions and countries holding the largest mangrove resources and encompasses the major biogeographic and socio-economic settings of mangrove distribution. Given the economic and ecological importance of mangrove wetlands at the global scale, the chapters aim to integrate ecological and socio-economic perspectives on mangrove function and management using a system-level hierarchical analysis framework. The book explores the nexus between mangrove ecology and the capacity for ecosystem services, with an emphasis on thresholds, multiple stressors, and local conditions that determine this capacity. The interdisciplinary approach and illustrative study cases included in the book will provide valuable resources in data, information, and knowledge about the current status of one of the most productive coastal ecosystem in the world.
