"In 1986, the Kansas Legislature enacted the Occupational Therapy Practice Act. The bill was included in the Kansas Statutes Annotated as K.S.A. 65-5401 et seq. Beginning July 1, 1987, the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts commenced the registration of occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants. In 2002, the Kansas Legislature made substantial changes to the occupational therapy laws. Effective July 1, 2002, it became unlawful for any person not licensed as an occupational therapist or an occupational therapy assistant to use, in connection with such person's name or place of business, the words "occupational therapist," "licensed occupational therapist," "occupational therapist licensed," "occupational therapy assistant," "licensed occupational therapy assistant," or the letters, "O.T.," " L.O.T.," "O.T.L.," "O.T.A." or " L.O.T.A." or any other words, letters, abbreviations or insignia indicating or implying that such person is an occupational therapist or an occupational therapy assistant.
