"Although set in the present, the book you are holding has not been written ... yet! This enigmatic literary paradox was recently unearthed by a highly respected cryptozoologist exploring subterranean caverns beneath a ruined Scottish castle. The chest he found contained a hand-written manuscript of the entire Tartan of Thyme with a strange explanatory note dated 01/04/26. Nothing else is known about its mysterious author, Panama Oxridge, except that he or she will be born sometime early next year"--P. [2] of cover.

This easy-to-follow textbook teaches Java programming from first principles, as well as covering design and testing methodologies. The text is divided into two parts. Each part supports a one-semester module, the first part addressing fundamental programming concepts, and the second part building on this foundation, teaching the skills required to develop more advanced applications. This fully updated and greatly enhanced fourth edition covers the key developments introduced in Java 8, including material on JavaFX, lambda expressions and the Stream API. Topics and features: begins by introducing fundamental programming concepts such as declaration of variables, control structures, methods and arrays; goes on to cover the fundamental object-oriented concepts of classes and objects, inheritance and polymorphism; uses JavaFX throughout for constructing event-driven graphical interfaces; includes advanced topics such as interfaces and lambda expressions, generics, collection classes and exceptions; explains file-handling techniques, packages, multi-threaded programs, socket programming, remote database access and processing collections using streams; includes self-test questions and programming exercises at the end of each chapter, as well as two illuminating case studies; provides additional resources at its associated website (simply go to springer.com and search for "Java in Two Semesters"), including a guide on how to install and use the NetBeansTM Java IDE. Offering a gentle introduction to the field, assuming no prior knowledge of the subject, Java in Two Semesters is the ideal companion to undergraduate modules in software development or programming.

From the first I included poetic lines, from my novella ‘Stand and deliver, to my setting in the places of my childhood, my longest tale, Upon this tree. Either spoken or as a feed to a chapter. An example is the poem 'Remember me (included in full in the 'Love' section) Almost a biographical theme, I mostly write in rhythm and rhyme, a natural instance that appeals to me, though I feel it isn’t a necessity in story verses, where it can appear tedious. Like most poets this selection comes from life, love and memories, recollections dear to my heart, whether it may be the love of nature, film, music, yearnings to love, or simple nonsense, where throughout any merit I attribute to God and his encouragement. Also I feel I must add the helping hand of a precious Godly soul, Patricia Tijerina, whose inspiration and encouragement was immeasurable. I hope all who venture to read a part of my life find pleasure and enjoyment in doing so, to know and sense a little of the rapture I convey, whether it be my innermost feelings, or the life-long love of nature, film and childhood. Written under pressure that I assume most could not bear, this book of verse is long overdue. I hope it gives an insight into my life, feelings and memories. Thank you to all who read my first volume of verse, knowing part of my life and ever loving memories, interlaced with the love of nature, film and lighter moments. Michael S Ball

Thus begins the story of Justin Thyme, and his search for his real father, the pirate Erich Craigie. From Pennsylvania to South Carolina to the treacherous waters of the Bermuda Triangle, Justin searches for the answers to questions he may be better off not knowing.

For Alternity... It has been said that absolute power corrupts absolutely. But that wasn"t said about the altruistic men and women of Alternitycorp, a group of science-adventurers who gained absolute power only to change key events of the past in hopes of creating a better future. This future had a name, and that name was Chronopolis, a city created using a science called Chrononomy. It all starts deep beneath Alternity Group Headquarters, where Special Time Agent Justin Nicholas Thyme enters the Chrona, an imposing time portal powered by the nuclear fusion of nearby stars. This star energy enables Justin and his protegée Infinity Staires to travel back in time to change key events, forward in time to explore mankind"s eventual fate, and even across infinite fractured dimensions. Join Justin as he fights giant centipedes in the Permian, while Infinity attempts to prevent Cortes from landing at La Paz, all under orders from a group of wildly rich scientists trying to save humanity, and the flora and megafauna of the future. Chronopolis is the home base, and the Chrona is the gateway to the past, future and beyond. Come ride along, and don"t forget to wear a protective "freeze" suit for the time jumps! Meet our agents, the aliens, the ants and the beautiful amazons of Space Station Armstrong, then take a breather at Alternity"s Miocene base, where Infinity keeps Owdy, her pet Woolly Mammoth. This is an adventure you will never forget.
