Collaborative Projects - An Interdisciplinary Study presents research in disciplines ranging from Education, Psychotherapy and Social Work to Literacy and anti-poverty Project Management to Social Movement studies and Political Science. All the contributions are unified by use of the concept of 'project'. 'Project' is 'leading activity' for Child Development, whilst 'life project' may play a crucial role in personal development and Psychotherapy; the social fabric of a community can be understood as woven from projects which may be sustained by NGOs, or develop from social movements to institutions. Giving concrete content to the concept of 'project' in each domain of research, opens a prospect of a genuinely interdisciplinary human science. Contributors are: Igor Arievitch, Michael Arnold, Lynn Beaton, William Blanton, Andy Blunden, Michael Cole, Brecht De Smet, Natalia Gajdamaschko, Virginia Gordon, Manfred Holodynski, Naja Berg Hougaard, Vera John-Steiner, Elena Kravtsova, Gennadiy Kravtsov, Ron Lubensky, Morten Nissen, Jennifer Power, Mike Rifino, Keiko Matsuura, Francisco Medina, Anna Stetsenko, Greg Thompson, Chiel van der Veen, Eduardo Vianna, Lynne Wolbert, and Helena Worthen.

For many organizations, the way in which processes and projects are selected and executed is a fundamental factor in how well they can prosper in today's marketplace. By improving efficiency, driving productivity and reducing costs, organizations can increase throughput, improve service and bring new products to market faster. The aim of this book is to show how to assess chances of project success at the idea stage in order to direct resources to promising projects and conserve resources. In doing that, it presents effective project execution processes, practices, and experiences that help to select the right projects and do them right. This is a mindset changing book from project speed and cost cutting to discipline, execution excellence, and competitive advantage. It is about effective business development using a practical approach to select the right projects and do them successfully. It describes how to evaluate and predict the likelihood of project success at the idea stage before resources are expended to develop projects. Each chapter describes how to evaluate planned project development and implementation, rate its performance, and identify gaps to be filled to achieve project execution excellence. The book is designed to guide the assessment of each project stage to uncover areas in need of improvement with focus on prediction of project success. Hence, each chapter stands on its own and assesses key elements of project stages to determine how well they are executed. The journey of project execution described is based on predicting project success at the idea stage and begins with understanding differences in large project requirements and their effects on the way they should be done. The evaluation of the idea's origin and reasons for pursuing a project is done with help from an experienced facilitator/moderator. The reason for it is that this individual is engaged to assess likelihood of success from an external, independent, critical, and objective perspective before the project begins.

The successful writing and management of collaborative research projects requires a common understanding of the project's objectives by all partners involved. It also requires a clear vision of the project inputs and outputs. This paper presents two case-studies where concept maps were used as a knowledge management tool in order to support both project life-cycle management and project proposal writing. Concept maps were drawn in both cases in order to describe the main activities executed in the project work packages (WPs) and to show how the WPs were linked to each other.

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1.3, Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen, language: English, abstract: The concept of the joint venture was developed in the United States. First, we need to make a distinction between purely contractual, non-equity joint ventures, on the one hand, and equity or corporate joint ventures, on the other. The regular form of joint venture is a company that is founded out of equity provided from two other entities. This venture is similar to a business partnership but limited to a specific project or purpose. The equity joint venture manifests the founding firms‟ willingness to cooperate by providing each a certain percentage of the common capital stock as illustrated in the graphic below (in this case with each partner providing half of the capital stock). There are countless ways to build up an equity joint venture with each partner providing only a certain percentage of the common capital stock (e.g. 70/30%, 90/10%, 51/49% and so forth). The firms gain control over the founded joint venture and share revenues, expenses and assets in equal proportion to their respective contributions to the venture‟s registered capital. Differing arrangements are possible. Over the last decade, we were able to witness rapidly growing companies, some of them seeking for partnerships to take advantage of positive synergy effects to gain in size or to enter new foreign markets. The topic of this essay should be why firms seek to venture, what the benefits of venturing are and why some firms fail after the venture, what are the downsides of this concept?
