THE author has written this book for the followingreasons:1. Because of the great need of light and theabsence of books on this subject.2. It is believed that some have gone over thefalls of fanaticism, and that others have been greatlyperplexed and hindered in their life work on accountof lack of such light.3. Some who read the two sections, which werepublished, declared themselves to have been greatlyhelped thereby.4. God brought the subject-matter to the author'smind, laid it upon his heart, and opened the wayfor its writing and publication. He feels that equally with his other books, Godhas directed and will bless in its circulation andperusal. He also believes that with His blessingupon it, it will prove a light-house by life's sea, which will help to warn of threatening danger, andaid its readers in standing "perfect and complete inall the will of God." How many people live on the edge of their faith-not only Christians, but people who call themselves by other names? Too many, it seems! If you want to reach real meaning in life, not just the glittering life we see in glossy magazines with cover photos of places one the other side of the world, read this book. Think about yourself somewhere in a public place, a mall or an airport. There might be a person who seems to see something beyond ordinary life. You wish you knew what that person knows about life, but just then, you have to leave, or that other interesting person walks away, and you wonder, "What did she (or he) see? I wish I knew." And then you wonder more-"Do I really see anyone the way I would like to see another person? Do I really see God?" This book is written to help you look inside-at what really counts in life.

Martin Wells Knapp defines an 'Impression' as an influence on an emotion, feeling or action - these can be good, such as impressions created by God, or evil, such as those originating from Satan. This book discusses the various types of impressions, and the ways in which believers can - in the case of those holy or beneficent - receive them. Conversely, we are instructed how to avoid malevolent impressions by practicing good deeds and helping one's fellow man, while also devoting time to prayer and to reading and reflecting upon spiritual matters. Quoting Biblical scripture and the psalms, Knapp defines and distinguishes the types of impression. The effect on the human spirit, the elevation of the soul, and the feeling of spiritual fulfillment that ensues from accepting God's influence. Over time, familiarity with the various kinds of impression - be they scriptural, moral, or willed by God - results in wisdom and further such blessings. Such submission to the guidance of the Lord is not easy however: some impressions have one or more prerequisites; receptivity to guidance from the Lord, banishing all traces of the devil from your heart, and an unstinting belief in God's capacity to provide joy and peace in this life and the next are crucial requirements. The author spent his life working in the Methodist ministry, where he was active in the revivalist and holiness movements. Notably committed to God, Knapp's health suffered after he contracted typhoid fever - he continued to preach even in his hospital deathbed, departing to join the Lord at the age of forty-eight.

The Signature of Jesus challenges the gospel of "cheap grace" and calls the church to radical discipleship. With passion and boldness, author Brennan Manning invites readers to risk living life as Jesus lived—committed to simplicity, purity of heart, and obedience to the gospel. As a radical alternative this book is offered to Christians who want to live by faith and not by mere “religion,” for those who recognize that many of the burning theological issues in the church today are neither burning nor theological; who see Christianity neither as a moral code or a belief system but as a love affair; who have not forgotten that they are followers of a crucified Christ; who know that following him means living dangerously; who want to live the gospel without compromise; who have no greater desire than to have his signature written on the pages of their lives. “Behold,” Jesus proclaims, “I stand at the door and knock.” You may have already met him at the door…but do you truly know him? Have you been transformed by His furious, passionate, unexplainable love? Join Brennan Manning, the bestselling author of The Ragamuffin Gospel, on a personal journey to experience Christ’s love and live with His passion.

What does the Bible teach? What did your parents teach you? Is your faith just a mirror of someone else's views? This book is about the challenge to separate and discover the truth for the student or reader. I grew up with so many different belief systems. Which one is right? By choosing to take a second look at the first impressions I was able to empower my own faith. By empowering my faith I was able to stand on a foundation of truth that made sense to me. This strength and empowerment can be yours by using this book as a guide. It is both simple to understand and easy to read, but challenging to find definitions in our life based on the Bible or tradition. Challenging your belief system allows you to personalize and strengthen your faith. Seeing your belief system in smaller pieces helps you sort out falsehoods of traditions past with the truth, resulting in a stronger system which can strengthen your personal relationship with God.
