Step-by-step, the book walks you through how to file your petition with the Tax Court, prepare your case for trial (if it does not settle), and present it as clearly as possible in order to improve your chances of winning. The book also includes samples of forms, letters, and documents that you may need or receive from the IRS, starting from before you file your petition with the Court to after the case is settled or tried, so that, at each stage, you'd have a reasonably good idea of what you're dealing with, and be able to develop an appropriate response. Outrageous stories about the IRS, the Internal Revenue Service, and you the American taxpayer. Funny stories. You will laugh. You will learn. Your will learn how the IRS works. Your will learn how to deal with them and, you will learn not to be afraid of them. This is a book for everyone; everyone who is in the tax system; and everyone who is not. It is twenty plus years of "hands on" experience of dealing with the IRS. Written in simple, humorous, and informative language, it is for everyone. True stories about you and the taxman, the IRS. You will laugh...and you will learn. Vendel "Ven" Matis was born and, for the most part, raised in New Jersey. That should explain a lot. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1964 and received his law degree, JD, from the Marshall-Wyth School of Law, the College of William & Mary, the oldest law school in the country. He has been an attorney since 1969 and began to practice as a tax attorney in 1977. He was a certified specialist in the United States Tax Court. He is now retired. Mr. Matis has traveled extensively throughout the world. He's drunk blood with the Masai in Africa and visited Macchu Pichu, the lost city of the Incas in the Peruvian Andes. He's also done far more dangerous things; he was an Estate planning consultant in Beverly Hills, CA and an expert in offshore trusts in The Caymans in the 1970's. In 1983, Mr.Matis began his tax practice, dealing with the audit and collection divisions of the IRS and the three taxing agencies of the State of California. He chose to represent middle-class Americans who needed the help. He is a "hands-on" specialist who worked every day dealing with middle class tax problems for over 20 years, on behalf of the "average guy." In 2004 he retired and now functions as a consultant. He has written this book for you- the American Taxpayer.
