Um einen Ornithopter auf Basis eines Flattermechanismus zu bauen, muss zuerst ein Katalog mit Parametern gefunden werden, welche das aerodynamische Verhalten des Systems beeinflussen. Das Ziel dieser Masterarbeit ist das Entwickeln und Dokumentieren einer Testroutine zur Findung dieser Parameter. Zu diesem Zweck muss ein Testaufbau entwickelt werden. In diesem Testaufbau kann der ungeregelte Mechanismus vertikal schweben. Während des Schwebens können Parameter wie Motorspannung, Motorstrom, Flatterfrequenz und Flughöhe bestimmt werden. Um die Auswertung zu vereinfachen wird der Testaufbau über einen Arduino mit Matlab als Steuersoftware gesteuert. Nach der Entwicklung des Testaufbaus müssen die verwendeten Sensoren und der Arduino verbunden und programmiert werden. Basierend auf dem derzeitigen Stand der Technik wird anschließend ein Flattermechanismus entworfen und aufgebaut. Der Mechanismus wird im Testaufbau getestet und optimiert, sowie die Parameter, die ein Schweben erlauben dokumentiert. In einer Parameterstudie können anschließend die Einflüsse verschiedener Parameter getestet werden. So kann ein Flattermechanismus entwickelt werden, der stabil schweben, und in Zukunft fliegen kann.

An investigation of the take-off, landing, and hovering-flight characteristics of a four-engine-transport, vertical take-off airplane has been conducted with a remotely controlled free-flight model. The model had four propellers distributed along the wing with thrust axes parallel to the fuselage axis. In order to produce direct lift for hovering flight, the propeller slipstream was deflected downward about 70 degrees by a full-span 65-percent-chord flap deflected 90 degrees and eight extensible vanes arranged above the wing in a cascade relation.
