Six times as many households have sets as in 1950. The number of households with television sets in the United States was over six times as great in June 1955 as it was in April 1950, according to the results of a survey conducted by the Bureau of the Census. About 32 million, or 67 percent of the households enumerated in June, had one or more television sets, whereas in 1950, the first time that a question on television was included in a census, there were about 5,000,000 households with television sets, or 12 percent of the total. About 80 percent of the households located in standard metropolitan areas of the Nation had one or more sets. Only a little over a half of the households in urban places outside standard metropolitan areas and less than half of the households in rural territory outside standard metropolitan areas had television sets.
