Download The Comprehensive Chainsaw Maintenance Guidebook Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
About this book: A chainsaw is arguably the most effective tool a person can use to fell trees and clear brush. They're effective, efficient, portable, and can be used in all types of settings. In short, chainsaws are the best teammate a sawyer can have when tasked with felling, bucking, and limbing trees. However, keeping a chainsaw running at its fullest potential requires a lot of attention to detail during routine maintenance. As Abraham Lincoln is quoted as saying, "give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe." Thankfully, we're now a far cry from resorting to axes to take down and process trees, but the principle still holds true. You have enough to worry about when operating your chainsaw. Your saw's maintenance shouldn't be one of them. The Comprehensive Chainsaw Maintenance Guidebook is your one-stop source for all the guidance, tips, and tricks you will need to properly maintain your chainsaw and keep it running at peak performance for years to come. About the author: Steven first learned the basic principles of chainsaw safety, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance while on an AmeriCorps conservation crew. He went on to sharpen his saw skills while fighting wildfires as a lead sawyer on a fuels crew with the Bureau of Land Management. While with the BLM, he also gained valuable experience as a lead sawyer on a dedicated six-man saw team as part of a twenty-man hand crew. Steven is partial to the medium and larger displacement Stihl saws as those are what he used most during his work experience. His favorites are the full wrap MS 362, 044, and MS 461 models using 22-24" bars for their ability to cut through larger diameter fuels while still being relatively lightweight.

Download Tree Faller's Manual Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The Tree Faller’s Manual is an essential handbook for forest operators and others who need to fell trees manually using a hand-held chainsaw. This manual builds on the information provided by the Chainsaw Operator’s Manual. Tree felling is a high risk activity. Many fatalities and serious injuries have occurred as a result of being struck by falling trees, dislodged tree limbs or other dangers in the area. Most of these accidents are caused by using unsafe felling techniques and not following safe work procedures. This manual will guide the faller to safer work techniques. The manual is based on the national competency standards for the forest and forest products industry where tree-felling is covered using three categories: basic, intermediate and advanced. Basic tree felling applies to trees that are relatively small, with a single stem and no defects. Intermediate tree felling covers trees with single or multiple stems, limited defects, and lean and weight distribution that can be adapted to felling direction. Advanced tree felling applies to larger and more complex trees and includes trees deemed to be more hazardous. Workplace safety, risk assessment and site preparation are included along with the theory, techniques and tools for each of the tree-felling categories.

Download The Greenhorn's Guide to Chainsaws and Firewood Cutting Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
While there's a lot of good information for the experienced sawyer, this book is primarily for the person who is new at or just now entertaining the thought of cutting their own firewood. In fact, (if you haven't already!) don't even purchase a chain saw until after you've read the first chapter because that's where I tell you what to look for to get the saw that's best for you. After that, there will be chapters on using your saw safely and effectively, a chapter on properly maintaining your saw and another chapter on sharpening the chain so it cuts like it did when it was new (in some instances it will cut better!) After learning about chainsaws and how to use them we'll go on to chapters about which wood makes the best firewood and how (and why!) to season green wood properly. From there we'll look at splitting firewood (including "problem" wood with knots or twisted grain), and the tools you'll need to accomplish that. Safety is stressed throughout. All through the book I'll keep an eye on expenses. There's a big difference between the equipment requirements of the professional woodcutter or logger compared to the homeowner just getting a few cords for the fireplace every year. Likewise I'll bring up options for the more diminutive woodcutters among us. After all, not everyone is a testosterone driven, Paul Bunyan wannabe!Keep in mind that this is the beginner's course in woodcutting. I'll tell you some ways to spot problem trees and then advise you to leave them to professionals. Sawing on trees can be very dangerous work. Leave the risky trees to professionals until you've had a lot of experience and training. By the time you're that good you'll have the wisdom and knowledge you need to tackle the big jobs.
