Westmoreland County was created in 1773 from Lancaster, Northumberland and Bedford Counties. It lies in the southwestern corner of the state and was the parent county to: Allegheny, Armstrong, parts of Bedford, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, and Washington. These early settlers were of Scotch-Irish, German, Franch Huguenots and English American descent. This book is broken down into two sections. The second is a history of the townships with hundreds and hundreds of biographical sketches interspersed. All this is followed up with a New Index that was produced for this reprint which mentions approximately 23,000 persons.
