Jerome Bonaparte, at that time an officer in the navy of the French republic, married Miss Elizabeth Pater son, daughter of a respectable citizen of the United States: this marriage was celebrated at Baltimore by the Bishop of Baltimore, according to the rites of the holy Catholic Church, and the act of celebration was inserted the same day in the register of marriages at the cathedral of the city of Baltimore.
