It was composed of democrats, and was called in view of the election to be held November 13th following, to vote on the question of the adoption of the constitution, and for the selection of governor, lieutenant-governor, members of congress and of the legislature. John W. Geary was the presiding officer. The attendance was so large that the meeting was compelled to adjourn from a hall to the public square. Dr. McMillan, O. P. Sutton, E. V. Joice, Thomas J. Agnew, John McVicker, Annis Merrill, and W. H. Jones were vice-presidents, and Joseph T. Downey, J. Ross Browne, Daniel Cronin, and John A. McGlynn, secretaries.
