Stanley Moore was born in Lenoir in 1909, but moved to Statesville where he was graduated from Statesville High School in 1927. He attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and worked for a securities company in New York during the stock market crash of 1929. After a short stint as a reporter for the Statesville Record, he joined The New Herald in 1934 where he served as News Editor until 1945. After a brief period as assistant business manager at Broughton Hospital and administrator of Grace Hospital, he returned to The News Herald as editor, a position he held from 1952 until his retirement in 1977.
