Excerpt from High Resolution Schemes for Hyperbolic Conservation Laws This paper presents a class of new explicit second order accurate finite difference schemes for the computation of weak solutions of hyperbolic conservation laws. These highly nonlinear schemes are obtained by applying a nonoscillatory first order accurate scheme to an appropriately modified flux function. The so derived second order accurate schemes achieve high resolution while preserving the robustness of the original nonoscillatory first order accurate scheme. Numerical experiments are presented to demonstrate the performance of these new schemes. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Excerpt from A Random Choice Finite-Difference Scheme for Hyperbolic Conservation Laws In the course of analyzing our method we estimate the probability of gross error by the random choice method; this estimate is a great improvement of the (alarmingly) high previous estimates. Excerpt from Decay of Solutions of Systems of Hyperbolic Conservation Laws The proofs are based on methods introduced in [2] supplemented by further inequalities which take into account the interaction of shock waves and rarefaction waves of the same family. The new estimates prove such interactions must occur and that when do occur they lead to decay in the solution.
