In wartime New York City, budding reporter Jenny Ryan is chasing the biggest story of her life. Everyone said the death of her beloved research scientist father was an accident, but she knows it was her fault. When an anonymous phone call puts the blame on wealthy industrialist Marcus Forrester, Jenny doesn't hesitate to act. Armed with absolution and a tenacious drive for justice, she will stop at nothing to bring him down. She didn't count on falling for the key to her plan ? Forrester's mistress. On the surface, Kathryn Hammond has it all: a successful nightclub singing career, elegant grace, and stunning good looks that draw all eyes to her when she enters a room. No one can see her tragic past, or the demons she battles daily as she toils stateside, carrying out what she considers dead-end missions for the OSS while the real war rages in Europe. She knows nothing short of her death in service to the greater good will redeem her for the lives lost on a mission gone bad. All that changes when Jenny Ryan becomes her latest dead-end mission and awakens long dormant concepts like hope, redemption, and the worst thing that could happen to an agent toward their subject: desire. These two women, on very disparate paths, are caught in a reluctant, slow burn that will save them, but at what cost, and are they willing to pay the price?

In this small volume, Doris H. Gray shares her reflections on human responses to trauma – especially when it is kept secret – and on attempts at healing that transcend boundaries. She offers insights on how individuals recover from trauma, in particular when official procedures for redress and professional help are not available. She challenges conventional notions of forgiveness and reconciliation, which often put the pressure on victims to move forward. Most of all, Gray finds that victims´ efforts to come to terms with trauma are not disconnected, but are related across time, culture, religion and geography. Part of this book narrates Gray’s personal experiences of growing up with her father, who was a Holocaust survivor, the sudden death of her oldest child, her own rape, and soon thereafter, the death of her husband. She describes how these events shaped her scholarly research, especially that on women who were victims of torture and extreme discrimination during the Tunisian dictatorship of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali (1989-2011). It is the sum of these experiences that lays the foundation for this brave book. Dr. Doris H. Gray was Director of the Hillary Clinton Center for Women´s Empowerment at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco, where she also served as Professor of Women and Gender Studies. Before moving to Morocco, she taught in the Gender Studies Program and the Department of Modern Languages at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, USA. Her research focuses on gender and women´s rights and transitional justice in Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria. She has previously published three books.

Hidden in the Shadow of Truth was written by Reginald E. Hicks neither to absolve nor to indict black males for their current social condition. It was written rather to provide a comprehensive and accurate explanation as to why so many black males seem to be led by the nose toward the prison doors. Why is it that black juveniles consistently outpace their white, Hispanic, and Asian counterparts by a margin of more than 2 to 1 in the commission of murders, aggravated assaults, weapons law violations, forcible rapes, robberies, and motor vehicle thefts? Why is it that blacks account for only 13 percent of the total U.S. population but a full 41 percent of the incarcerated? Hicks explains that the mentality of many black youth is a product of a very unique socialization process wherein the family, the school system, the peer group, and the mass media have collectively failed in their responsibilities, making black boys more prone to choosing the path of incarceration or enslavement through criminality. In this exceptional work, Reginald E. Hicks presents "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth," letting the chips fall where they may.

Secrets, vengeance, and a brutal murder unsettle an idyllic winter paradise in a blood-chilling novel of suspense by the acclaimed author of Hidden in Snow and the Sandhamn Murder series. In the Swedish ski resort of Åre, crime is rare. Certainly nothing so brutal as the murder of Johan Andersson, a former Olympic skier found bound and beaten to death in the forest. According to his distraught wife, he didn't have any enemies in the world. To Detective Inspectors Hanna Ahlander and Daniel Lindskog, the crime proves otherwise. But what could have provoked such rage? And in whom? As Hanna and Daniel search for answers, Rebecka Ekvall, a vulnerable pastor's wife, is trapped in an abusive marriage. Isolated from her congregation, she's afraid of her husband and even more fearful for her life. Because Rebecka carries a fateful secret. But she isn't the only one in Åre with something to hide. As Hanna and Daniel continue to untangle the dark histories of a growing list of suspects, they realize that Johan's murder is just the beginning of a disturbing case about survival and revenge--at any cost.
