Encounter is a book of poems written mostly in free verse but with some traditional poetic forms - villanelle, pantoum and haiku - included. The collection is divided into three sharply observed themes - love, nature and life. The author's inspiration comes from many sources. She grew up in Barbados and the poems inspired by those memories show a strong emotional connection. Married and divorced twice, the poems charting the author's personal experience of love - the joy it brings, the pain when it goes wrong, and then finally moving on are poignant and sometimes raw. However, the author's greatest inspirations are nature and the seasons. The thrill of a new spring, mercurial summer, the glorious colours of autumn, the frozen wonders of winter -these poems are beautifully observed and imagistic. The author would like to say, though, that her feelings about snow are ambivalent and some of the happy snowy poems are definitely fictional.

It was a time prior to the last Ice Age where mammalian mega fauna and jumbo flora dominated the landscape. Man was far from the dominant species on the planet. No wolf knew why they were enemies of man, only that the ancient inscriptions publicized the hostilities between the species. Conflict was the only definable moment in their historical relationship. Pack leadership and the elders reinforced the lessons taught by the ancient writings that were scribed on the walls of their caves. Man was the enemy and there would be no reconciliation.

This volume investigates the material production and expression of colonial experiences in Africa. It combines archaeological, historical, and ethnographic sources to explore the diverse pathways, practices, and projects constructed by Africans in their engagement with the forces of colonial modernity and capitalism. This first full length treatment of the role of morality in tourism examines how the tourism encounter is also fundamentally a moral encounter. Drawing upon interdisciplinary perspectives, leading and new authors in the field address topics that range from volunteer tourism to fertility tourism to reveal new insights into the ways tourism encounters are implicated in, and contribute to, broader moral reconfigurations in Western and non-Western contexts.
