This third volume is for nurses and technicians working in cath labs and interventional labs. It will help invasive specialists prepare for either the CCI exam (RCIS) or the ARRT exams (CI and VI). These books are modeled after the latest edition these exams. Since Create space prints on demand the total price is reduced, and all five volumes in the five volume set must be purchased separately here. This book is organized around current exam content/matrix for the national CV exams, and designed it to be similar to the exam you will take. The content of each national exam is outlined and explained, with many exam tips and study aids. To prepare you for your exam, this book includes more than 500 questions, answers, explanations, and references. This Volume 3 focuses on cath lab hemodynamic calculations and measurements with chapters on: - Cardiac pressure Identification-Reading Pressures-Pressure Recording Systems-Pressure Pathology -Valve area calculation-Cardiac outputs and shunts-Quantitative LV Angiography-Coronary hemodynamics and IVUS-Other measurements made in the Cath lab. The author is a professional educator with an engineering degree, 23 years teaching cardiovascular technology, experience writing national board exams, takes the exams himself every 2-3 years, has received the highest exam scores in the country twice, updates the books periodically, and now writes review books full time. It is written in common language and graphics are included on virtually every page for the visual learner.

There are significant advances in the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of cardiac development and the etiology of congenital heart disease (CHD). However, these have not yet evolved to such a degree so as to be useful in preventing CHD at this time. Developments such as early detection of the neonates with serious heart disease and their rapid transport to tertiary care centers, availability of highly sensitive noninvasive diagnostic tools, advances in neonatal care and anesthesia, progress in transcatheter interventional procedures and extension of complicated surgical procedures to the neonate and infant have advanced to such a degree that almost all congenital cardiac defects can be diagnosed and "corrected". Treatment of the majority of acyanotic and simpler cyanotic heart defects with currently available transcatheter and surgical techniques is feasible, effective and safe. The application of staged total cavo-pulmonary connection (Fontan) has markedly improved the long-term outlook of children who have one functioning ventricle. This book, I hope, will serve as a rich source of information to the physician caring for infants, children and adults with CHD which may help them provide optimal care for their patients.
