"Sixteen-year-old Sarah, younger twin by two hours, wrote, 'And now it is time for my story to end because we have finally reached the beginning." Did she know? How could she have guessed? Or did she just happen to choose words that had a greater meaning for her life about to be tragically cut short? Heartbreaking and heartwarming, Heaven's child captures the reader in a web of raw emotions in events that could strike any family. Like teens across the country, Sarah had parents who cared, attended a good school, lived in a safe community. And yet, life carries no guarantees. Caroline Flohr flings open her family's life for viewing, painting an intimate portrait of a nightmare in a small community and a family's determination to triumph after tragedy."--P. [4] of cover.

Heaven´s Very Special Child & The Family is a most needed book concerning the purpose of God in allowing a child who is retarded or physically disabled to be born. From personal experiences by the author, a widow of a pastor, and one of their 5 children, with Down Snydrome (Ruth lived 43 years), Edna recounts the blessings, amid many trying times. Besides her personal story, in this book are many other stories from others that touch the hearts of readers. In Part 2 of the book are original poems and songs all related to the care and inspiration given to parents and other caregivers of children who are either physically disabled or mentally retarded. And, from a religious angle, the mention of prayers, unspoken by the child are emphasized. There is a resource section also, where readers can receive further information about parenting a disabled child, and the obvious joys and benefits to themselves and to society. The poem ´Heaven´s Very Special Child´ was read and acknowledged by the late President Kennedy on the day of his assassination. As we all know, his sister was mentally retarded. The actual inspiration for the poem was through Henry Viscardi´s conversation with his mother. Henry was born without legs and became a famous author and he started a school for disabled children in New York. In a world that is changing at such a dizzying rate we as Christians and as people who sometimes cling with such a feeble grip to whatever and whomever may still give us hope are so often confronted with so many difficult questions and a testing of our faith. Questions for which, at least to our earthbound minds, there seems to be no answers. We are faced with the question, firstly, of why it is that good people so often have to endure what seems to be an inordinate and unfair share of suffering. We are faced with a myriad of faith options in our search for the truth. If we are really sincere in our service to our Lord and Master Jesus Christ, we cannot help but to be grieved and perplexed by the never ending and always painful question of why our Savior had to pay the price that he did for such ungrateful children as we so often prove to be. These are but some of the questions that I battle with on a daily basis, and I hope—no, I pray—that somewhere within the pages of this book, your searching heart may find that hope that so often seems so tantalizingly illusive. Having read through Mr De Klerk’s book twice, I was astounded at the simplicity of his message. I was encouraged deeply in my walk with God. Whether you are a new believer or you’ve been on this journey forever, this book will take you to the next level of your faith. Blessings Bongani Njamini It's an easy and honest read. Stimulating a personal conversation and evaluation of one's own response to our individual journey's. The writting style is personable in it's approach and direct in it's purpose. Evoking a personal response to Truth,as life unfolds and demands of us. I would recommend this read,to anyone searching. Salome de Klerk I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the writer, Lionel De Klerk, on a book well written and every word, worth reading. It was a book that once you picked it up and started reading, you just wanted to carry on to see what the next and next page said. It made me understand Gods deep and unending love for me and reading certain passages gave me answers to questions. I would recommend anybody to read this book and maybe like me, you will find answers to questions. Debra Sa Joe

Heavens and the Heaven looks at five levels of heaven. These are Life, Heights, Times, Power and God. As far as the scriptures are concerned, the author could find no other heaven. In other word, we do not and cannot go to heaven when we die. In looking at hell, on the other hand, we also find that this is suffering, pains and aches here on earth. Death and the grave is, therefore, the seal of this hell. Some have asked: “why do we believe in Jesus, then?” The answer is in Paul’s Temple cry in the council of Acts.23:6. “... Men and brethren ... of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called ...” So, the struggle continue to be choosing between our will or God’s will; our traditions and belief system, or the word of God as contained in the Bible; our sugar laden air pocket ridden leaven bread or God’s choice of healthy unleavened bread. To introduce this book a little bit more, here is an excerpt from the theme of this work: If all living are in heaven, it may be hard for some to accept that those who are alive but ill and suffering are also in heaven. This explains why too many folks refuse, or find it difficult to accept that the life we enjoy now is all the heaven there is. But the harsh reality is, for as long as this present time remains, life is all the heaven there is! Whether we accept or believe it or not, we LIVE out this heaven of life in Time, in Height, in Power (and privileges) and in God. These all, jointly and severally describes the five levels of the heavens there are. But life makes sense of the others and everything else. That life is in God. His Spirit establishes that life in all living. So, when we talk of Life we, inadvertently, talk of the Deity of the universe. The author’s position in these is this. Let this work help us to pause a moment. Then, reexamine the word of God in these views of our heavens also. We may yet find that we have been with the traditions and belief of men long enough. Our individual and joint finds should help ground us more strongly in whatever level in the Faith and understanding of the word of God we are in, currently. In this effort, we should remember that the greatest of these all is to love God above all, and our neighbor as ourselves. Our neighbors are our family members (immediate and extended members), the Jews or Israel (the Elect of God and our Father’s first born). The third are the folks we meet in our daily interactions.

A historical novel of prejudice and plague, The Scourges of Heaven sweeps gracefully, joyfully, painfully across centuries and generations. Through Cynthia Anne Ferguson, orphaned aboard a vessel carrying immigrants, hopes, dreams, and cholera from the Old World to the New, David Dick paints a world where the causes of disease are little understood, where faith is not always a comfort, where human questioning often goes unanswered, and where unexpected death is frequently attributed to the wrath of an angry God. Cynthia's story unfolds in the midst of the first of four great cholera epidemics to sweep America in the mid-nineteenth century, and her journey through life, from New Orleans up the Mississippi and Ohio rivers and across the Bluegrass to Lexington, parallels the track followed by the deadly scourge. More powerfully told than any factual, statistical, or scientific account could ever manage, yet based upon historical events, this tale of disease, ignorance, and narrow-mindedness is supported by a central theme of hope that ultimately brings redemption.
