Excerpt from Heart to Heart Appeals There is only one line that can be drawn through society, always and everywhere, namely, the line that separates the man who is at heart a democrat from the man who is at heart an aristocrat. I do not use the word democrat in a partisan sense. The word is more than two thousand years older than the democratic party. It describes an attitude of the human heart. Nine-tenths of those who call themselves republicans are at heart democratic and some who call themselves democrats are at heart aristocratic. To discover whether any one is at heart a democrat or an aristocrat, tell him the story of Lazarus and Dives and note his comment. If he is a democrat he will try to devise a plan for decreasing the number of the poor; if he is an aristocrat he will say: What a lucky thing for Lazarus that there was a Dives near to furnish crumbs. Excerpt from Appeals to the Heart, Exhibiting the Beauties of Christian Truth: In Twenty-One Discourses, Practical and Experimental The design of the apostle in writing these things was, that their joy might be full. It was his ear nest prayer, as well as the prayer of the apostle Paul, that the God of hope would fill them with all joy and peace in believing. He excites them to preserve fellowship and communion with God, by considering the transcendent excellence of the Divine nature; God, says he, is light, and in him is no darkness at all. How clear is his knowledge, for He is omniscient; and how nu stained is H is nature, for God is holy. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Confession, or the Blind Heart: A Domestic Story TO readers, therefore, who are simply in search Of incident, and that sort Of interest which appeals to the blood rather than the brain, it may be well, by way Of caution, and to prevent unreasonable expectation, to say that this Confession of the Blind Heart offers very little encouragement. It partakes of few of the features of that school of Dumas, and Reynolds, and Ainsworth, in which the 'heart is made to roar out its hopes or sufferings, under incessant provocation and stimuli. It has its disastrous chances but with few Of those moving accidents by flood and field - those hair-breadth 'scapes i' the immi nent deadly breach - which so richly garnish in general the tales of these popular writers. Such messages were sent into a world of troubled men from the rare mind of Nellie Rosilla Taylor, and she is sending the answers from those messages to you. Her appeals reached the immortal side of man's nature and followed him into the field of battle and there they cheered the wounded and gave comfort to the dying.
