Excerpt from Hardy Plants for New England Gardens, 1931: Perennials, Rock Plants, Flowering Shrubs, Evergreens E specialize in Hardy Perennials, particularly Peonies, Irises, and Phlox. Except a few indispensable biennials like Campanula medium and Digitalis purpurea, our list is confined to the choicest and hardiest herbaceous perennials which are best to use as the basis for New England hardy borders and rock gardens. Many old-fashioned plants are included which have been cultivated in New England gardens since colonial times. A few are included which, though short-lived, are beautiful enough to warrant occasional replacing. We have in the nursery other varieties besides those listed here. The plants that we furnish are field-grown, except a few varieties which are more successfully handled in pots. Extra large clumps can sometimes be supplied at double price. All varieties not priced differently are 25 cts. Each, $2 for 10, $16 per 100. Add 5 to 10 per cent for parcel post. Aconitum autumnale. Autumn Monks hood. 4 it. September. Spikes of dark blue. Hooded flowers. Will grow in part shade. 50 cts. Each, $4 for 10. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Perennials, or Old Fashioned Hardy Garden Flowers, 1924 Catalogue There is no question -in the mind of any one who has a thorough knowledge of nursery stock and its demand among home owners, that a larger number of plants such as are illustrated in this book, can be sold in a given territory than any other class of stock. The orders will not run into money like shrubs, roses or trees, as they are less expensive, but dozens and hundreds can be sold where singles and half-dozens are disposed of in other classes of stock. There is hardly a home in this country where it is not possible to interest the owner in some of these Hardy Perennial Plants as they are a con stant source of joy in the summer months. Study the descriptions so that you know what you are selling, and you will have no trouble in showing any householder where it would be desirable to plant some of this stock. In the back of the book you will find Cannas, Dahlias' and Gladioli, which should be sold only for spring shipment. Remember we do not wish any orders for this class of stock for fall shipment. You can, however, sell them all the year around as long as you take them on spring blanks. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
