Download Perceptual Audio Evaluation - Theory, Method and Application Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
As audio and telecommunication technologies develop, there is an increasing need to evaluate the technical and perceptual performance of these innovations. A growing number of new technologies (e.g. low bit-rate coding) are based on specific properties of the auditory system, which are often highly non-linear. This means that the auditory quality of such systems cannot be measured by traditional physical measures (such as distortion, frequency response etc.), but only by perceptual evaluations in the form of listening tests. Perceptual Audio Evaluation provides a comprehensive guide to the many variables that need to be considered before, during and after experiments. Including the selection of the content of the programme material to be reproduced, technical aspects of the production of the programme material, the experimental set-up including calibration, and the statistical planning of the experiment and subsequent analysis of the data. Perceptual Audio Evaluation: Provides a complete and accessible guide to the motives, theory and practical application of perceptual evaluation of reproduced sound. Discusses all the variables of perceptual evaluation, their control and their possible influence on the results. Covers in detail all international standards on the topic. Is illustrated throughout with tables, figures and worked solutions. Perceptual Audio Evaluation will appeal to audio and speech engineers as well as researchers in audio and speech laboratories. Postgraduate students in engineering or acoustics and undergraduate students studying psychoacoustics, speech audio processing and signal processing will also find this an essential reference.

Download Microencapsulation in the Food Industry Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Microencapsulation in the Food Industry: A Practical Implementation Guide, Second Edition continues to focus on the development of new microencapsulation techniques for researchers and scientists in the field. This practical reference combines the knowledge of new and novel processing techniques, materials and selection, regulatory aspects and testing and evaluation of materials. It provides application specific uses of microencapsulation as it applies to the food and nutraceutical industries. This reference offers unique solutions to some very specific product needs in the field of encapsulation. This second edition highlights changes in the industry as a result of a field that has traversed from the micro scale level to nano-scaled encapsulation and includes two new chapters, one on regulatory, quality, process scale-up, packaging, and economics and the other on testing and quality control. Includes new characterization methodologies to understand chemical and physical properties for functionality of the final microencapsulated material Presents the latest research and developments in the area of nano-scale encapsulation and intelligent packaging Provides new testing tools to assess products containing microencapsulated actives

Download Identifying and Controlling Municipal Wastewater Odor Phase II Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This project was undertaken in response to needs by the wastewater treatment industry to better understand the generation of odors from biosolids produced by wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Its primary objective is to begin to establish relationships between WWTP process parameters and biosolids odors, so that more effective techniques for minimizing biosolids odors can be developed. The project consisted of a detailed field study involving extensive sampling and analyses at 11 WWTPs across North America with capacities from 13 to 350 million gallons per day (mgd). Biosolids samples were collected from the WWTPs at a number of sampling points, which were chosen to represent a complete snapshot of biosolids generation and handling at each WWTP. The sampling points started with influent wastewater, proceeded through primary and secondary clarification, and continued through digestion, dewatering, and onsite storage of dewatered biosolids cake. Laboratory-scale anaerobic storage tests were conducted to simulate odor development of biosolids in storage, prior to their beneficial reuse or disposal. A battery of analyses were performed on the biosolids samples by the participating utility laboratories, commercial laboratories, and specialized university laboratories. The analytical data were evaluated and compared with process and operation parameters at each participating WWTP.
