"Growing up in Disneyland" is part biography about Ron's father, actor Don DeFore, and his own autobiography. The book includes much of Don's unpublished autobiography, "Hollywood - DeFore 'n After." "Growing up in Disneyland" is a metaphor for Ron DeFore's life growing up in a celebrity family filled with "Fantasyland" adventures he equates to a "Forest Gump" type life, from meeting the Beatles, Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin, and other celebrities as Associate Director of the Steve Allen Show. His nearly 20 careers include a mid-life crisis as the "Flying DJ" at an L.A. discotheque to political positions within the Reagan Presidential Administration to establishing his own company. "Growing up in Disneyland" is also to be taken literally, as Ron spent much of his youth in Disneyland where his father owned Don DeFore's Silver Banjo Barbecue restaurant in Frontierland. Ron and his brother, Dave, have given presentations to various Disneyland interest groups after which many attendees suggested, "you should write a book." "Growing up in Disneyland" will be enjoyed by any age group from baby-boomers that remember Don DeFore's many beloved acting roles to those that don't but are curious how life was in "the good-old-days," especially growing up in a Hollywood celebrity family. Ron has had so many careers and adventures along the way that readers will have much to keep them from putting the book down.

When you're a part of the Disney Studio family, life is anything but ordinary. Cathy's father was George Sherman, Head of Publications at Walt Disney Studios from the late 1950s to 1974. He was in charge of comic books. When Disney foreign representatives came to town, they would visit this "typical American family," and would be escorted by them to Disneyland. Mr. Sherman died of a rare cancer when only 45, and his daughter now has the same disease. In the interim, however, Mrs. Sherman bought a sailboat with the intention of sailing to the South Seas. Things did not go as planned. There was a hero involved in their adventure, and Cathy later had a journey of her own to Europe. Nothing, though, could compare to the sweet, wonderful memories of those years as a Disney Studio family.

This expansive, must-have coffee table book paints a robust portrait of the Walt Disney World Resort, across half a century, through diverse and vibrant voices and mostly unseen Disney theme park concept art and photographs. Walt Disney's vision for the Florida Project begins with Disneyland and the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair. After an imaginative and expansive design, a unique land acquisition process, and an innovative construction period, the Walt Disney World Resort celebrated its Grand Opening in October 1971. It featured a theme park dubbed the Magic Kingdom and three recreational resorts: Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Polynesian Village, and Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. As Walt Disney World consistently grew and further evolved through the five decades that followed, certain themes reverberated: an appreciation for nostalgia, a joy for fantasy, a hunger for discovery, and an unending hope for a better tomorrow. Inspirational and memorable theme parks, water parks, sports arenas, recreational water sports, world-class golf courses, vast shopping villages, and a transportation network unlike any other in the world resulted in fun, festive, and familiar characters, traditions, spectacles, merchandise, and so much more. The resort has come to represent the pulse of American leisure and has served as a backdrop for life's milestones both big and small, public and private. Walt Disney World: A Portrait of the First Half Century serves as a treasure trove for vacationers, students of hospitality, artists, and all Disney collectors.
