Loving, The Key to Happiness and Blessings is really three books in one. Each one can individually bring happiness and blessings into the life of the reader. The first book is chapter one and two. Chapter one tells us who God says we should love if we are one of his children. Because of what God and Jesus did in loving us, chapter two teaches what the Bible says are the prerequisites and requirements for becoming one of God‘s children and having the Holy Spirit to help us do what is in chapter one. If we haven’t met all those prerequisites and requirements already, we can believe and act on them and become one of God’s children for the greatest happiness and blessing of our life time. The second book, chapters three through seven, focuses on how we can obtain happiness and blessings by following what the Bible teaches us on how we can love God, our neighbors, our brothers and sisters in Christ, and everyone including—yes, even our enemies. The third book, chapter eight, tells how we obtain happiness and blessings as we equip ourselves for loving living through Bible study and prayer. It teaches us the importance of each one separately and how to tie the two together with a daily quiet time with God. These three books combine to help the reader obtain the greatest happiness and blessings.

Theodore ‘’Tully’’ Greenwood is a man with an enormous ego. He believed he was a great father, great employee and union brother, great lover and above all, a great bettor who loved to win money betting on sporting events with a local Milwaukee bookkeeper. He was so successful at winning money that the Mob boss, who headed the betting operation, sent his estranged wife to bait Greenwood into a sexual encounter. Hours later Greenwood and the Mob boss’s wife are taken to a hunting cottage where they are shot and killed. Greenwood’s body was covered with a tarp behind the cottage and wasn’t found for about two months. And hour after the funeral ended Greenwood’s spirit woke up on his bed with his guardian angel sitting in a chair looking right at him. Tully is escorted to Heaven’s front door by the guardian angel. An entrance counselor reviews Tully’s life with him and determines his entrance assignment is to meet a number of souls already in Heaven. Tully is taught the importance of change for the better, or bettor, in order to make it all the way into Heaven.

As girls enter their tween and teen years, it’s especially important for them to have an open and growing relationship with their father. Unfortunately, this is often the time when parental relationships are strained. The One Year Father-Daughter Devotions can foster communication and understanding; and it’s a wonderful way for a father to bond with his daughter during a crucial point in her life. Each of the 365 devotions begins with an introductory story, then daddy-daughter time provides discussion questions, activities, or other practical applications of the daily lesson. A “What’s the Word” section gives a related Bible verse to help bring God’s Word alive as father and daughter apply the Scripture to their lives. Written by three fathers, the devotions have a tone that is conversational and relatable: the authors use everything from flavored potato chips to the Etch-A-Sketch game to share truths about God’s Word and to help fathers and daughters relate to each other.

Dan Jenkins calls him “the greatest quarterback who ever lived, college or pro.” Slingin’ Sammy Baugh, who played for TCU and the Washington Redskins, single-handedly revolutionized the game of football. While the pros still wore leather helmets and played the game more like rugby, Baugh’s ability to throw the ball with rifle-like accuracy made the forward pass a strategic weapon, not a desperation heave. Like Babe Ruth, who changed the very perception of how baseball is played, Slingin’ Sam transformed the notion of offense in football and how much yardage can be gained through the air. As the first modern quarterback, Baugh led the Redskins to five title games and two NFL championships, while leading the league in passing six times—a record that endures to this day—and in punting four times. In 1943, the triple-threat Baugh also scored a triple crown when he led the league in passing, punting, and interceptions. Slingin’ Sam is the first major biography of this legendary quarterback, one of the first inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Joe Holley traces the whole arc of Baugh’s life (1914–2008), from his small-town Texas roots to his college ball success as an All-American at TCU, his brief flirtation with professional baseball, and his stellar career with the Washington Redskins (1937–1952), as well as his later career coaching the New York Titans and Houston Oilers and ranching in West Texas. Through Holley’s vivid descriptions of close-fought games, Baugh comes alive both as the consummate all-around athlete who could play every minute of every game, on both offense and defense, and as an all-around good guy.
