To be honest, the great minds at Gwandanaland ComicsTM have had a difficult time understanding how the cover and the title of EXECUTIVE'S COMIC BOOK bears any relation to the contents. The hilarious parody contained within has nothing to do with being an executive; since it was a mass-market paperback it was not a comic book; and the picture of Goodman Beaver flying through the air with a shapely beauty on his arm was not really going to clue-in the reader to what was ahead. So, as they say, pay no attention to that curtain, and only the wizard behind it! These are the wacky tales of GOODMAN BEAVER and his run-ins with some of the famous names of the day: S*P*RM*N, T*RZ*N, and some kids from Riverdale High, to name just a few. From the master-mind of legend Harvey Kurman, and the amazing pen of Will Elder, spews forth an experience you will never forget! Although this book was produced originally in small paperback size, the detailed artwork demanded that we reprint this book in our standard Gwandanaland Comics size --- you'll be glad we did!

Harvey Kurtzman's Jungle Book is widely regarded as one of the greatest comic books of all time, and was voted into the 'Top 100 Comics of the 20th Century' by The Comics Journal. Written and illustrated by Kurtzman in 1959, Jungle Book takes a satirical swipe at the cultural monoliths of the day: detective shows, Western movies and the publishing industry in general. Equally unafraid to take on social issues, Kurtzman also satirises the lynch-hungry mobs still prevalent in the South, and the nascent rise of the Freudian movement within popular culture.

This companion volume to Will Elder: The Mad Playboy of Art peeks into the gray matter of one of comics' most fertile and wide-ranging imaginations. Elder coined the term "chicken fat" to describe the myriad background gags crammed into his stories for MAD, Panic, Humbug, Goodman Beaver and Little Annie Fanny: "It's the part of the chicken soup that is bad for you, yet gives the soup its delicious flavor," he once explained. Chicken Fat is a collection of flavors by a master comedic chef as he works out his recipes. This is a collection of sketches, drawings and a variety of obscure commercial illustration over the course of Elder's long career. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 13.9px Arial; color: #424242}

A suicide scandal in Shanghai reveals the social fault lines of democratic visions in China's troubled Republic in the early 1920s. On September 8, 1922, the body of Xi Shangzhen was found hanging in the Shanghai newspaper office where she worked. Although her death occurred outside of Chinese jurisdiction, her US-educated employer, Tang Jiezhi, was kidnapped by Chinese authorities and put on trial. In the unfolding scandal, novelists, filmmakers, suffragists, reformers, and even a founding member of the Chinese Communist Party seized upon the case as emblematic of deep social problems. Xi's family claimed that Tang had pressured her to be his concubine; his conviction instead for financial fraud only stirred further controversy. The creation of a republic ten years earlier had inspired a vision of popular sovereignty and citizenship premised upon gender equality and legal reform. After the quick suppression of the first Chinese parliament, commercial circles took up the banner of democracy in their pursuit of wealth. But, Bryna Goodman shows, the suicide of an educated "new woman" exposed the emptiness of republican democracy after a flash of speculative finance gripped the city. In the shadow of economic crisis, Tang's trial also exposed the frailty of legal mechanisms in a political landscape fragmented by warlords and enclaves of foreign colonial rule. The Suicide of Miss Xi opens a window onto how urban Chinese in the early twentieth century navigated China's early passage through democratic populism, in an ill-fated moment of possibility between empire and party dictatorship. Xi Shangzhen became a symbol of the failures of the Chinese Republic as well as the broken promises of citizen's rights, gender equality, and financial prosperity betokened by liberal democracy and capitalism.
