In the last ten years of the 20th century, the world was twice confronted with unbelievable news from Africa. First, there was the end of Apartheid in South Africa. Who would have thought that such a change would be possible without bloodshed? But the miracle happened, due to responsible political and Church leaders and as a result of the unique processes organized through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission under the leadership of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The second unbelievable experience from Africa was of a rather different and awfully shocking nature: the mass killings in Rwanda. This event soon developed into a real genocide and created a wave of horror around the world. There, political and Church leaders had been unable to prevent this crime against humanity.

The power to create is imbedded in all of us. But, it requires a paradigm shift in order to activate it; a belief in a God who transforms, a dogged determination to succeed, a passion that comes from the gut and not from the head, a clear strategy to see what others dont see, and to hope where there is no hope.. This book presents a different approach to dealing with challenges. Jesus is our model. You have the potential. You are unique. You can turn crises into opportunities. Jesus did, so you can too. The heroes of the faith did, and you can. You can make possible what seems impossible. And your life will never be the same again. Your challenges will not go away but you will learn to deal with them. You will learn how to manage crises as well as the joy of overcoming all odds; how to stay peaceful when all else around you is disintegrating; how to keep the faith at the edge of chaos, in season and out of season.

When a young Richie Furay moved to New York hoping to make it big in folk music, God wasn’t one of his concerns. But destiny was. Later, when he started Buffalo Springfield with Neil Young and Stephen Stills, it seemed Furay’s destiny had finally arrived. Although the band recorded only three albums, it remains a touchstone of sixties rock music–with all five band members now enshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Furay remained a musical pioneer, forming Poco and recording some of the first–and best–country rock music of the sixties and seventies. His work was a major influence on the Eagles and innumerable other bands. But he still had not found his destiny. It wasn’t until his marriage almost disintegrated that Furay confronted his need for God. After co-founding two legendary bands and recording with a rock super-group, Richie Furay finally found his destiny. The long journey took him from sold-out arena concerts to the pulpit of a Colorado church, from rock royalty to the Rock of Ages. Destiny is often found in the places where we’re not looking. As you follow the twists and turns in Richie Furay’s inspiring journey, you’ll gain fresh insight into your own.

Baptizing Business sifts through popular perceptions regarding the relationship between business and religion and the agenda of conservative Christian business leaders, drawing on personal interviews with the most diverse group of evangelical executives yet studied. While stereotypes and previous research both emphasize the perceived incompatibility of religious mandates and business objectives, Bradley C. Smith argues that evangelical executives experience tension not because business and religion are inherently opposed, but because they are made to feel like second-class citizens by members of their own faith communities. Indeed, in cases of apparent conflict between faith and business, evangelical executives insist that it is faith, not business, that must be reconceived. Smith reveals that evangelical business leaders are as inclined to export business concepts into other domains as to import religious objectives into business contexts, prompting us to reconsider the direction of influence between religious and economic life. Baptizing Business is filled with compelling stories that paint a nuanced, unbiased picture of the increasing influence of intensely religious business leaders. The "spirit of capitalism," defined by Max Weber as a positive attitude toward work and wealth, finds ongoing embrace and new expression in evangelical executives and their accounts, with implications for our understanding of the faith at work movement, evangelicalism, and the role of religion among elites.
