The must-have guide to traditional, emerging and creative TV funding models that are being developed and exploited by social media-savvy documentary filmmakers. Each chapter covers a different form of funding and combines advice from industry insiders - producers, buyers, specialist media agencies and corporate funding bodies - and entertaining case studies that illustrate the benefits and pitfalls of each method. With practical tips, case studies and advice it reveals what grantors, brands and NGOs are looking for in a pitch (they all have different needs and expectations), and the cultural differences that can trip up the unwary producer. Funding examples range from blue-chip TV documentaries, such as Planet Earth, which was co-funded by the BBC, Discovery NHK and CBC to The TV Book Club (More 4), which is funded by Specsavers opticians; to Lemonade Movie, which harnessed the power of Twitter to source free equipment and post-production resources. Readers will discover: the difference between co-productions, pre-sales and acquisitions; how to develop and pitch advertiser funded programming; the new rules on product placement; where to hunt for foundation and grant funding and how to fill in those fiendish application forms; the power of crowd-funding and how to harness the internet; how to sniff out grants and funds held in non-film focused organisations such as the Wellcome Trust; why corporations are keen to fund your documentary and how to get them to part with their money without giving up your editorial control.

ICE COLD Trying to escape her overbearing mother, vintage kitchenware enthusiast and soon-to-be columnist Jaymie Leighton retreats to her family’s cottage on Heartbreak Island. While there she hopes to write an article about the Ice House restaurant, owned by good friends and neighbors, siblings Ruby and Garnet Redmond. Once an actual icehouse, the restaurant is charmingly decorated with antique tools of the trade, including a collection of ice picks. One night, while working on her article, Jaymie overhears an argument and, ever the sleuth, sets out to explore. But when she stumbles upon a dead body her blood runs cold. It’s Urban Dobrinskie, whose feud with the Redmonds is no secret, and he’s got an ice pick through his heart. Now Jaymie’s got to sharpen her sleuthing skills to chip away at the mystery and prove her neighbors’ innocence—before someone else gets picked off…

Cities are breeding grounds for possibilities… Almost anything and everyone has a chance to be good, bad, heroic, evil, mundane, and magical. And most things, and people, are hybrids. Consider the countless opportunities for people to develop unique, innovative solutions to their problems; consider the challenge of surviving in the chaos of a teeming city where survival is a challenge; consider the opportunities for complete failure; and consider the options available. The urban environment is not forgiving and you should count on survivors using whatever tools they have at hand. You even need to expect magic. Always expect magic, even if there might be a cruder, more expedient, more obvious way of doing things, because witches are people.

About the Book Alan R. Livingston's life of crime resulted in over 45 years of incarceration. Over decades, supportive inmates inside the walls lead Alan to the Lord, which changed his life forever. Since his release, Livingston's life has been blessed with a steady job and a loving church. Livingston hopes that if readers have not found the Lord, they will seek Him as he learned to do, as recounted in I Met The Lord On My Knees On The Prison Floor. About the Author Born in August, 1949, Alan entered the Helena State Training School for White Boys in Helena, Oklahoma at the age of 10. Experiencing an in-and-out public school education, Alan’s last year of school was in 1965. Held back in public school year after year and returned repeatedly to Helena, Alan was 16 years old when he left middle school. That year, he began to be prosecuted for his crimes as an adult. From that time forward, Alan was incarcerated and lived inside Oklahoma, Colorado and Texas prisons for 48 years. When released from the Oklahoma State Penitentiary at McAlester, Oklahoma in 2015, Alan was 66 years old. It has been a labor of love to write his stories, and with his never-give-up attitude and with the help of his friends, Alan has done just that.
