Geothermal Well Test Analysis: Fundamentals, Applications and Advanced Techniques provides a comprehensive review of the geothermal pressure transient analysis methodology and its similarities and differences with petroleum and groundwater well test analysis. Also discussed are the different tests undertaken in geothermal wells during completion testing, output/production testing, and the interpretation of data. In addition, the book focuses on pressure transient analysis by numerical simulation and inverse methods, also covering the familiar pressure derivative plot. Finally, non-standard geothermal pressure transient behaviors are analyzed and interpreted by numerical techniques for cases beyond the limit of existing analytical techniques. Provides a guide on the analysis of well test data in geothermal wells, including pressure transient analysis, completion testing and output testing Presents practical information on how to avoid common issues with data collection in geothermal wells Uses SI units, converting existing equations and models found in literature to this unit system instead of oilfield units

An introduction to the different types of geothermal systems both conventional and non-conventional (EGS) is given, with reference to the relevant well design. The book provides a comprehensive review of geothermal pressure transient analysis methodology, and the similarities and differences with petroleum and ground water well test analysis. Also discussed are the different tests undertaken in geothermal wells during completion testing, output/production testing and the interpretation of the data. Attention is given to the practical aspects of undertaking testing in geothermal wells, some of the common problems encountered and possible solutions. The major content and most novel part of the book focuses on pressure transient analysis by numerical simulation and inverse methods, coupled with the use of the familiar pressure derivative plot. Non-standard geothermal pressure transient behaviors are analysed and interpreted by numerical techniques for cases beyond the limit of existing analytical techniques. Throughout the book, well testing concepts are illustrated with field data from real geothermal wells. A guide to analysis of well test data in geothermal wells, including pressure transient analysis, completion testing and output testing. Provides practical information on how to avoid common issues with data collection in geothermal wells. Uses SI units, converting existing equations and models found in literature to this unit system, instead of oilfield units.

Download Geothermal Reservoir Engineering Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
As nations alike struggle to diversify and secure their power portfolios, geothermal energy, the essentially limitless heat emanating from the earth itself, is being harnessed at an unprecedented rate. For the last 25 years, engineers around the world tasked with taming this raw power have used Geothermal Reservoir Engineering as both a training manual and a professional reference. This long-awaited second edition of Geothermal Reservoir Engineering is a practical guide to the issues and tasks geothermal engineers encounter in the course of their daily jobs. The book focuses particularly on the evaluation of potential sites and provides detailed guidance on the field management of the power plants built on them. With over 100 pages of new material informed by the breakthroughs of the last 25 years, Geothermal Reservoir Engineering remains the only training tool and professional reference dedicated to advising both new and experienced geothermal reservoir engineers. The only resource available to help geothermal professionals make smart choices in field site selection and reservoir management Practical focus eschews theory and basics- getting right to the heart of the important issues encountered in the field Updates include coverage of advances in EGS (enhanced geothermal systems), well stimulation, well modeling, extensive field histories and preparing data for reservoir simulation Case studies provide cautionary tales and best practices that can only be imparted by a seasoned expert

Download Recent Developments in Well Test Analysis in the Stanford Geothermal Program Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
In the past year a number of studies pertaining to geothermal well test analysis were conducted. In this paper a brief overview of progress on the following six subjects is presented: (1) earth tide effects on a closed reservoir, (2) transient pressure analysis of multilayered heterogeneous reservoirs, (3) interference testing with wellbore storage and skin at the producing well, (4) steam/water relative permeabilities, (5) transient rate and pressure buildup resulting from constant pressure production, and (6) transient pressure analysis of a parallelepiped reservoir.

This book presents peer-reviewed papers based on the oral and poster presentations during the 5th International Conference on Renewable Energy Sources, which was held from June 20 to 22, 2018 in Krynica, Poland. The scope of the conference included a wide range of topics in renewable energy technology, with a major focus on biomass, solar energy and geothermal energy, but also extending to heat pumps, fuel cells, wind energy, energy storage, and the modelling and optimization of renewable energy systems. This edition of the conference had a special focus on the role of renewable energy in the reduction of air pollution in the Eastern European region. Traditionally this conference is a unique occasion for gathering Polish and international researchers’ perspectives on renewable energy sources, and furthermore of balancing them against governmental policy considerations. Accordingly, the conference offered also panels to discuss best practices and solutions with local entrepreneurs and federal government bodies. The meeting attracts not only scientist but also industry representatives as well as local and federal government personnel. In 2018, the conference was organized by the University of Agriculture in Krakow in cooperation with AGH University of Science and Technology (Krakow), University of Žilina, Silesian University of Technology, International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (CIGR) and Polish Society of Agricultural Engineering. Honorary auspices were given by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Republic of Poland, Rector of the University of Agriculture in Krakow and Rector of the AGH University of Science and Technology.
