Excerpt from Geography and Geology of a Portion of Southwestern Wyoming: With Special Reference to Coal and Oil The area discussed in this report comprises the extreme southwest corner of Wyoming and a small portion of Utah. Its northern and eastern boundaries lie, respectively, about 70 miles north of the southern boundary and about 35 miles east of the western boundary of Wyoming. The immediate incentive to this work was the decided economic need of more extended and accurate information regard ing the coal fields of the western United States. Field work was commenced on June 30, 1905, near Evanston, Wyo., with Alfred R. Schultz as chief assistant, Max A. Fishel as geologic aid and helper, and William Longhurst as cook and teamster. Mr. Fishel was appointed in place of a regular camp hand, and rendered considerable scientific assistance. In general, the policy of employing student help in place of regular camp hands is believed to be best for all parties concerned. During the illness of the writer, August 3 to Sep tember 3, Carl D. Smith, geologic aid, was added to the party. Field work was closed at Evanston on October 10. Doctor Schultz's efficient aid, both in the field and in the office, has contributed greatly to the results here presented.
