After being in the field of veterinary medicine for over 49 years, I would like to share what an emergency is from a veterinarian's perspective. The reason for writing this book is to empower the animal caregiver/pet owner with knowledge on how to know when they should take their animal in for emergency care or not. In my book I preface the book with a story about my journey into Holistic Veterinary Medicine where I added acupuncture, classical homeopathy, nutritional and herbal medicine, along with bovine colostrum, Gemmotherapy for helping my animal friends detoxify for optimal HEALTH and HEALING. In my book Is this an emergency? I selected symptoms that are commonly encounter in the lives of pets and given the care giver the tools to evaluate a particular symptom to determine whether it is an emergency or something how they can care for them at home with natural means. I have also provided guidance for the times you do need to go to an emergency facility and how to know how to say yes and no to what you are advised to do. The main objective of the book is to help keep your animal friend from having to go into a veterinary facility unless it is absolutely necessary. My message has always been the same to all my clients and readers. is drum roll please? Always prevent suffering and do no harm in the process. My book provides simple explanations to how to be a proactive animal caregiver and do no harm in the process. It also gives resources in the form of books and web sites to go deeper into the care of our friends the animals. Since we all know animals are OUR best friends, I want to make sure you all do your very best to care for them in a holistic way. Sincerely yours, Dr. Stephen R. Blake B.Sci., DVM, CVA, CVH, Usui Reiki Master. Aho and so it is .

Harnessing the vital energy of plant buds for detoxification and rejuvenation • The uses and healing properties of 34 tree and plant buds, including hawthorn, maple, and lilac • Catalog of more than 30 common ailments and their remedies • Resources for obtaining the remedies and preparation guidelines Gemmotherapy--the medicinal use of plant buds and young shoots--harnesses the healing power of trees and shrubs at the peak of energetic activity in their annual cycle, capturing powerful nutrients, vitamins, plant hormones, and enzymes. Perfect for combatting the unavoidable amount of pollutants we encounter in modern society, gemmotherapy is primarily aimed at draining the body of toxins and acts by gently stimulating and promoting elimination. The potency of these plant “stem cells” also enables gemmotherapy remedies to treat far more ailments than just those for which these plants are prescribed in traditional herbalism. This therapy can be used to treat many common conditions, such as asthma, osteoporosis, kidney stones, and anxiety, and is especially effective at alleviating allergies. This book describes the gemmotherapeutic uses and healing properties of 34 trees and plants, including hawthorn, maple, lilac, as well as covering the history and biological foundations of gemmotherapy. It contains a catalog of more than 30 ailments with in-depth remedy protocols, a resource section, and detailed information on how gemmotherapy extracts are prepared. An adjunct to both traditional herbalism and homeopathy, gemmotherapy offers an all-natural path to detoxification and healing with no side effects.

Massage, aromatherapy, reflexology and a variety of relaxation techniques are frequently used in hospices, supportive care settings and some hospitals. However, there are still gaps and limitations in the choices offered to patients. HEARTS (Hands-on, Empathy, Aromas, Relaxation, Textures, Sound) was devised to bridge this gap for complementary therapists, patients, carers and health care professionals. HEARTS can be used either on its own, or integrated with a conventional complementary therapy. It can also be used easily by health care workers (and carers) who are not qualified in any therapies. By discussing principles which may influence the effectiveness of touch and relaxation therapies, the book emphasises that there are 'easy' approaches that can be utilised when working with distressed and vulnerable patients. By developing an understanding of touch, aromas and the sound of the human voice, Combining Touch and Relaxation Skills for Cancer Care guides practitioners in helping their patients achieve a state of relaxation and calm as quickly and easily as possible.
