Download Basic Biostatistics for Geneticists and Epidemiologists Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Anyone who attempts to read genetics or epidemiology research literature needs to understand the essentials of biostatistics. This book, a revised new edition of the successful Essentials of Biostatistics has been written to provide such an understanding to those who have little or no statistical background and who need to keep abreast of new findings in this fast moving field. Unlike many other elementary books on biostatistics, the main focus of this book is to explain basic concepts needed to understand statistical procedures. This Book: Surveys basic statistical methods used in the genetics and epidemiology literature, including maximum likelihood and least squares. Introduces methods, such as permutation testing and bootstrapping, that are becoming more widely used in both genetic and epidemiological research. Is illustrated throughout with simple examples to clarify the statistical methodology. Explains Bayes’ theorem pictorially. Features exercises, with answers to alternate questions, enabling use as a course text. Written at an elementary mathematical level so that readers with high school mathematics will find the content accessible. Graduate students studying genetic epidemiology, researchers and practitioners from genetics, epidemiology, biology, medical research and statistics will find this an invaluable introduction to statistics.

Textbook looks at the fundamentals of epidemiology and biostatistics for all Public Health areas. Students can learn about the various signs and statistics on public health issues. Ray M. Merrill, Ph.D., M.P.H. has been actively involved in epidemiology and biostatistics since his professional career began in 1995. As a Cancer Prevention Fellow at the National Cancer Institute, he worked with leading researchers in the area of cancer epidemiology. In 1998 he joined the faculty in the Department of Health Science at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, where he continued his research in epidemiology. Since 1999 he has also held an adjunct faculty position in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of Utah. In 2001, he spent a sabbatical working in the Unit of Epidemiology for Cancer Prevention at the International Agency for Research on Cancer Administration, Lyon, France. He has won various awards for his research in cancer epidemiology.

Bernard Rosner's FUNDAMENTALS OF BIOSTATISTICS is a practical introduction to the methods, techniques, and computation of statistics with human subjects. It prepares students for their future courses and careers by introducing the statistical methods most often used in medical literature. Rosner minimizes the amount of mathematical formulation (algebra-based) while still giving complete explanations of all the important concepts. As in previous editions, a major strength of this book is that every new concept is developed systematically through completely worked out examples from current medical research problems. Most methods are illustrated with specific instructions as to implementation using software either from SAS, Stata, R, Excel or Minitab. Download Principles and Applications of Biostatistics Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Principles and Applications of Biostatistics covers the primary concepts and methods that are required for a fundamental understanding of the use and interpretation of statistics for the biological and health sciences–from data presentation to multiple regression and analysis of variance. With a focus clarity, brevity, and accuracy, this text provides understandable and focused explanation of statistical principles and applications along with practical examples (provided in R and Microsoft Excel) and problems drawn from biological health and medical settings. Key Features: • Practical questions follow each problem to encourage students to consider why the problem likely exists, help formulate hypotheses, and then statistically assess those hypotheses. • Abundant assignment problems at the end of sections and each chapter cover a variety of application areas of biostatistics. • Rationale boxes offer explanations of why certain methods are used for specific cases.
