Have you ever wanted to relive a special period of time in your life, perhaps a time when you first grasped your own personal identity? Frozen Memories is Rev. Bruce Lieske's mental journey back in time to when he was a member of the Antarctic Weather Central during the International Geophysical Year in 1956-57. Set in the context of 109 men living together in isolation for nearly a year on the frozen continent, the author explores with a more mature mind what he did - and thought - as a 22 year old meteorologist. Although filled with descriptions of groundbreaking scientific endeavor, the book emphasizes the psychological and spiritual struggles of those who "wintered over." Friendship, humor and a personal relationship with Christ are rediscovered as essential means to cope with life. The book abounds in many personal applications of God's Word to life situations, and reveals some of the crazy antics of men who lived out a year without civilization as we know it. Rev. Lieske is currently a retired Lutheran pastor living in Orlando, Florida, with his wife, Barbara. He has been blessed by God with a series of challenging careers. After his year in Antarctica he spent three years in the US Air Force as an aviation weather forecaster. Following his military service he served for two years as a senior research meteorologist at the Arctic Research Laboratory in Pt. Barrow, Alaska. During that time he felt the call the ministry and after seminary training served three congregations. He was the founding pastor of two of them. After his pastoral experience he founded an evangelistic ministry to Jewish people, and more recently has been involved in sharing the good news of Jesus with Muslims. He has three children and eight grandchildren.
