Finally new physics is emerging and it is simple! For the first time in history of physics we have learned how the electron inner structure looks in three-dimensional space (see Front cover). The foundational transformation of QED brings a plethora of new fundamental scientific discoveries. An example is weak electromagnetism as the second branch of electromagnetism with weak electric charge and weak Planck constant. Both values are established with the precision of ten digits. As turned out, the electron is not a fundamental (intrinsic) fermion, as claimed by the Standard Model for many decades. The electron is a composite fermion of electromagnetism and weak electromagnetism, consisting of the intrinsic electron and the electron neutrino. The electron neutrino has a duo-configuration, consisting of the intrinsic neutrino and the intrinsic antineutrino of opposite helicity. Both, the intrinsic neutrino and the intrinsic antineutrino are exclusive carriers of weak electric charge. The anomalous magnetic moment of the electron has been studied experimentally and theoretically since 1947 Kush measurements. The Standard Model explains the anomaly as a result of contribution interactions, principally by QED. Nothing can be further from the truth. According to Aphysical Quantum Mechanics, so-called "anomaly" is the magnetic moment of the electron neutrino, a constituent of the electron. The electron magnetic moment is a sum of the intrinsic electron magnetic moment equal to one Bohr magneton, and the electron neutrino magnetic moment equal two times of weak Bohr magneton. A long-standing problem of electron neutrino self-mass is resolved and the self-mass is determined with the precision of five digits. The detailed process of the electron formation (for example, following muon decay) is discovered and described instant-by-instant in spacetime dynamics. The corset action brings a newly formed electron from classical world into quantum world by reducing its size almost instantaneously by more that ten orders of magnitude with the energy conservation law observed.

The borderline of quantum electrodynamics and quantum optics offer spectacular results and problems concerning the foundations of radiation theory. Perhaps the major new viewpoint that has emerged from recent investigations is that one can now work inside a time-dependent quantum process, whereas up to now all elementary quantum processes were either stationary, or one worked with asymptotic in-and out-states, i.e. an S-matrix approach. In the-rirst part of this volume, the Quantum Electrodynamics, the present status of the main approaches to this most accurate of all physical theories are discussed: the Hamiltonian approach, the Green's function approach with particular emphasis to bound state problems, and the newer, nonperturbative approach. The latest numerical results on radiative corrections, Lamb shifts and anomalous magnetic moments are reviewed with new results for high Z atoms. Also discussed are different theoretical interpretations of the radiative phenomena as due to quantized field vacuum fluctuations or due to self energy. A small group of contributions are devoted to the physics and mathematical description of decaying or unstable states in quantum theory. This remarkable phenomenon of quantum theory still needs complete clarification, it is a time-dependent phenomenon, which can be described also by asymptotic S-matrix methods, but with complex energies.

In last years increasing attention has been again devoted to interpretations of quantum theory. In the same time interesting quantum optical experiments have been performed using nonlinear optical processes, in particular frequency down conversion, which provided new information about nature of a photon on the basis of interference and correlation (coincidence) phenomena. Such single-photon and twin-photon effects of quantum optics provide new point of view of interpretations of quantum theory and new tests of its principles. The purpose of this book is to discuss these questions. To follow this goal we give brief reviews of principles of quantum theory and of quantum theory of measurement. As a fundamental theoretical tool the coherent state technique is adopted based on a general algebraic treatment, including the de scription of interaction of radiation and matter. Typical quantum behaviour of physical systems is exhibited by nonclassical optical phenomena, which can be examined using photon interferences and correlations. These phenomena are closely related to violation of various classical inequalities and Bell's in equalities. The most important part of this book discusses quantum optical experiments supporting quantum theory. This book may be considered as a continuation of previous monographs by one of the authors on Coherence of Light (Van Nostrand Reinhold, London 1972, second edition D. Reidel, Dordrecht 1985) and on Quantum Statistics of Linear and Nonlinear Optical Phenomena (D. Reidel, Dordrecht 1984, second edition Kluwer, Dordrecht 1991), which may serve as a preparation for reading this book.
