Italy's northern border follows the watershed that separates the drainage basins of Northern and Southern Europe. Running mostly at high altitudes, it crosses snowfields and perennial glaciers--all of which are now melting as a result of anthropogenic climate change. As the watershed shifts so does the border, contradicting its representations on official maps. Italy, Austria, and Switzerland have consequently introduced the novel legal concept of a "moving border," one that acknowledges the volatility of geographical features once thought to be stable. A Moving Border: Alpine Cartographies of Climate Change builds upon the Italian Limes project by Studio Folder, which was devised in 2014 to survey the fluctuations of the boundary line across the Alps in real time. The book charts the effects of climate change on geopolitical understandings of border and the cartographic methods used to represent them. Locating the Italian condition alongside a longer political history of boundary making, the book brings together critical essays, visualizations, and unpublished documents from state archives. By examining the nexus of nationalism and cartography, A Moving Border details how borders are both material and imagined, and the ways global warming challenges Western conceptions of territory. Even more, it provides a blueprint for spatial intervention in a world where ecological processes are bound to dominate geopolitical affairs. A Moving Border features a foreword by Bruno Latour and texts by Stuart Elden, Mia Fuller, Francesca Hughes, and Wu Ming 1, and is co-published with ZKM | Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe.

This volume examines comparatively the views and principles of seven prominent ethical traditions on one of the most pressing issues of modern politics - the making and unmaking of state and national boundaries. The traditions represented are Judaism, Christianity, Islam, natural law, Confucianism, liberalism and international law. Each contributor, an expert within one of these traditions, shows how that tradition can handle the five dominant methods of altering state and national boundaries: conquest, settlement, purchase, inheritance and secession. Written by a distinguished group of international specialists this volume is unique in providing both in-depth normative and comparative perspectives on a troubling question that will offer readers real insight into inter-tradition conflict. Those readers will range from upper-level undergraduates to scholars in such fields as philosophy, political science, international relations and comparative religion.

A powerful manifesto for a world without borders from two immigration policy experts and activists Borders harm all of us: they must be abolished. Borders divide workers and families, fuel racial division, and reinforce global disparities. They encourage the expansion of technologies of surveillance and control, which impact migrants and citizens both. Bradley and de Noronha tell what should by now be a simple truth: borders are not only at the edges of national territory, in airports, or at border walls. Borders are everyday and everywhere; they follow people around and get between us, and disrupt our collective safety, freedom and flourishing. Against Borders is a passionate manifesto for border abolition, arguing that we must transform society and our relationships to one another, and build a world in which everyone has the freedom to move and to stay.

A border could be a physical obstacle but beyond it physicality-it could also impact culture, politics, economic and environment. Our issues that we are facing today and in the near future requires us to draw a new non geopolitical map without borders for our planet to address our challenges more effectively. Being adoptable and flexible is one of the solutions or at least a condition where we could discuss and resolve differences. This project on its path is criticizing UN's inflexible Architecture; it's Urbanity and argues that the function, form and place could impact the decision making process. To have this concept more appealing to nations to participate in its creation we need environments where no nation has authority over them. International Water is that environment for this Utopian idea as a place for civic and political exchange free from existing conventional authorities existed in the world and only 12 NM away form shore lines. Water would give this dense city type environments in dependency from land and nation's jurisdictions and allow more nations to join its cause eventually. Also, With more body of water on our planet today more than ever it seems logical to study a place for refuge where we could live and grow. Refugees are rising due to increase in conflicts and environmental issues worldwide today more than ever. Millions got displaced and countries and organizations are not able to coop with the scale of the issues on their own. The Floating infrastructure is the place for humanity purposes. This place is designed to be able to sustain itself by creating its own energy, food nd desalination systems to make a living condition possible. Floating concrete infrastructures seems viable, due to the advancement in concrete research and technology almost all around the world. Infrastructures that can move and expand to create metabolic forms of function as autonomous forms for many years, sustainable and independent form the land, is what this project is trying to investigate.

Fugitive Borders explores a new archive of 19th-century autobiographical writing by black authors in North America. For that purpose, Nele Sawallisch examines four different texts written by formerly enslaved men in the 1850s that emerged in or around the historical region of Canada West (now known as Ontario) and that defy the genre conventions of the classic slave narrative. Instead, these texts demonstrate originality in expressing complex, often ambivalent attitudes towards the so-called Canadian Promised Land and contribute to a form of textual community-building across national borders. In the context of emerging national discourses before Canada's Confederation in 1867, they offer alternatives to the hegemonic narrative of the white settler nation.
