The New York Times bestselling author of Elevator Pitch and master of psychological suspense returns with a riveting thriller in which the possible heirs of a dying tech millionaire are mysteriously being eliminated, one by one. “Find You First starts with a bang and ends with an even bigger one. . . . It’s the best book of his career.” — Stephen King Tech millionaire Miles Cookson has more money than he can ever spend, and everything he could dream of—except time. He has recently been diagnosed with a terminal illness, and there is a fifty percent chance that it can be passed on to the next generation. For Miles, this means taking a long hard look at his past . . . Two decades ago, a young, struggling Miles was a sperm donor. Somewhere out there, he has kids—nine of them. And they might be about to inherit both the good and the bad from him—maybe his fortune, or maybe something much worse. As Miles begins to search for the children he’s never known, aspiring film documentarian Chloe Swanson embarks on a quest to find her biological father, armed with the knowledge that twenty-two years ago, her mother used a New York sperm bank to become pregnant. When Miles and Chloe eventually connect, their excitement at finding each other is overshadowed by a series of mysterious and terrifying events. One by one, Miles’s other potential heirs are vanishing—every trace of them wiped, like they never existed at all. Who is the vicious killer—another heir methodically erasing rivals? Or is something even more sinister going on? It’s a deadly race against time . . .

Through a systematic comparison of the life circumstances, child-rearing practices, and personalities of the FulBe and their former slaves, the RiimaayBe, this book develops an alternative theory of the way personality is formed in the Fulani society of West Africa. Riesman discusses the different characters, economies, and life plans of adult men and women of both groups, focusing on their ideas about the value of relatives. He further presents detailed observations of child-rearing practices, and concludes that the FulBe and RiimaayBe do not differ in these practices. Contrasting Fulani and Western notions of parenting, he suggests that child-rearing practices are themselves irrelevant to the formation of adult personality, but that a people's ideas about the meaning of life, social relations, and the development of character are very important. Finally, Riesman outlines a sociocultural theory of personality and its formation, and uses this theory to make sense of the differences between FulBe and RiimaayBe.

Finally. Proof. In the Mexico City night, the cops freed the prisoners and locked up their torturers. Nearby, the reporter picked up a torn scrap of fabric. What looks like plain black silk turns out to be covered in subtle yet intricate patterns. The very tongue of life, rendered in thread. Something small. Torn from something larger. World-renowned roving journalist BS Trotter knows that little clues add up to big revelations. And she knows the scrap in her hand could be the first piece in a puzzle unsolved for thousands of years. Such a shame she has to give it up. Could anything be more fantastical than a reporter of impeccable character and unlimited resources? If you like sharp-tongued women heroes and short stories with a smooth twist, get ready to bundle up with “To Find the Man in Black, First Find His Tailor.” The Rucksack Universe series combines alternate history, speculative fiction, myth, adventure, globetrotting, and intrigue—all with well-poured pints of beer. Library Journal says Anthony St. Clair’s storytelling has “universe building reminiscent of Terry Pratchett,” and readers say they love the Rucksack Universe’s unique combination of “quirk, wit, travel, and magic.”

Download 20 First Dates: How to Find the Perfect Man in 20 Dates Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Humorous accounts of the author's search for Mr Right with practical advice and encouragement for fellow seekers. Rebecca K. Maddox is 30 years old. After many years as a single Christian woman, she embarked on a dating experiment - to go on twenty first dates, with twenty men, met in twenty different ways. Over the course of a year, Rebecca was almost compromised on the dance floor, stranded in a muddy village and the catcher of a bouquet. She sheltered under a cupcake box, waited nervously in line for results and spent hours trawling profiles on the Internet. She was driven in a rusty car with no floor and chased by an angry granny. She narrowly escaped a squirting tiger and a falling pigeon, attempted to eat a variety of foodstuffs while trying to look attractive, and struggled in and out of her glad rags in the toilets of approximately ten trains to London. She was confused, amused, frustrated and dazzled in equal measure. This is the true story of one woman's determined search for the man of her dreams, with plenty of practical advice on the world of Christian dating.

Download Fundamentals of Probability: A First Course Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Probability theory is one branch of mathematics that is simultaneously deep and immediately applicable in diverse areas of human endeavor. It is as fundamental as calculus. Calculus explains the external world, and probability theory helps predict a lot of it. In addition, problems in probability theory have an innate appeal, and the answers are often structured and strikingly beautiful. A solid background in probability theory and probability models will become increasingly more useful in the twenty-?rst century, as dif?cult new problems emerge, that will require more sophisticated models and analysis. Thisisa text onthe fundamentalsof thetheoryofprobabilityat anundergraduate or ?rst-year graduate level for students in science, engineering, and economics. The only mathematical background required is knowledge of univariate and multiva- ate calculus and basic linear algebra. The book covers all of the standard topics in basic probability, such as combinatorial probability, discrete and continuous distributions, moment generating functions, fundamental probability inequalities, the central limit theorem, and joint and conditional distributions of discrete and continuous random variables. But it also has some unique features and a forwa- looking feel.
