Discusses individual substances, mixtures of chemicals, or exposure circumstances associated with technological processes which are known to be human carcinogens or which may reasonably be anticipated to be human carcinogens. Also contains information relating to estimated exposures and exposure standards or guidelines. Chapters: delisted substances; profiles for agents, substances, mixtures or exposure circumstances known to be human carcinogens, or reasonably anticipated to be human carcinogens; list of manufacturing processes, occupations, and exposure circumstances classified; and listing/delisting procedures.

Many scientists believe that from 1/3 to 2/3 of all cancers may be associated with the environment in which we live and work. This report lists: all substances which are known to be carcinogens or may reasonably be anticipated to be carcinogens, and to which a significant number of persons residing in the U.S. are exposed; information concerning the nature of such exposure and the estimated number of persons exposed to such substances, and much, more. Sections include: carcinogenicity, properties, use, production, exposure and regulations. Encyclopedic!!

The Report on Carcinogens (RoC) is a congressionally mandated, science-based, public health document that identifies and discusses agents, substances, mixtures, or exposure circumstances (hereinafter referred to as "substances") that may pose a hazard to human health by virtue of their carcinogenicity. For each listed substance, the report contains a substance profile which provides information on (1) the listing status, (2) cancer studies in humans and animals, (3) studies of genotoxicity (ability to damage genes) and biologic mechanisms, (4) the potential for human exposure to these substances, and (5) Federalregulations to limit exposures. Eight substances have been added to this 12th ed. of the report, which now includes 240 listings. The industrial chemical formaldehyde and a botanical known as aristolochic acids are listed as known human carcinogens. Six other substances captafol, cobalt-tungsten carbide (in powder or hard metal form), certain inhalable glass wool fibers, o-nitrotoluene, riddelliine, and styrene are added as substances that are reasonably anticipated to be human carcinogens. Figures. This is a print on demand report.

Though overall cancer incidence and mortality have continued to decline in recent years, cancer continues to devastate the lives of far too many Americans. In 2009 alone, 1.5 million American men, women, and children were diagnosed with cancer, and 562,000 died from the disease. There is a growing body of evidence linking environmental exposures to cancer. The Pres. Cancer Panel dedicated its 2008¿2009 activities to examining the impact of environmental factors on cancer risk. The Panel considered industrial, occupational, and agricultural exposures as well as exposures related to medical practice, military activities, modern lifestyles, and natural sources. This report presents the Panel¿s recommend. to mitigate or eliminate these barriers. Illus.
