My Feelings Unlocked: A Collection of Poems from My Heart presents a collection of poems written by author Patrick Schady over the past few years. Most of them are dedicated to his family because that is the only way he knows how to convey his love to them. His family, however, represents the most important aspect of his life, and this collection gives voice to his deepest emotions regarding all of them. His pen is the key that unlocks his true feelings. Accordingly, the first part of this collection is devoted to and for his family, offering a very emotional experience. The second part of this collection chronicles events that have taken place in his life that caused him to reflect upon them and transcribe his true feelings into rhyme. My Feelings Unlocked shares an emotional journey of the heart to a source of unconditional love-the family.

The mental well-being of children and adults is shockingly poor. Marc Brackett, author of Permission to Feel, knows why. And he knows what we can do. "We have a crisis on our hands, and its victims are our children." Marc Brackett is a professor in Yale University’s Child Study Center and founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. In his 25 years as an emotion scientist, he has developed a remarkably effective plan to improve the lives of children and adults – a blueprint for understanding our emotions and using them wisely so that they help, rather than hinder, our success and well-being. The core of his approach is a legacy from his childhood, from an astute uncle who gave him permission to feel. He was the first adult who managed to see Marc, listen to him, and recognize the suffering, bullying, and abuse he’d endured. And that was the beginning of Marc’s awareness that what he was going through was temporary. He wasn’t alone, he wasn’t stuck on a timeline, and he wasn’t “wrong” to feel scared, isolated, and angry. Now, best of all, he could do something about it. In the decades since, Marc has led large research teams and raised tens of millions of dollars to investigate the roots of emotional well-being. His prescription for healthy children (and their parents, teachers, and schools) is a system called RULER, a high-impact and fast-effect approach to understanding and mastering emotions that has already transformed the thousands of schools that have adopted it. RULER has been proven to reduce stress and burnout, improve school climate, and enhance academic achievement. This book is the culmination of Marc’s development of RULER and his way to share the strategies and skills with readers around the world. It is tested, and it works. This book combines rigor, science, passion and inspiration in equal parts. Too many children and adults are suffering; they are ashamed of their feelings and emotionally unskilled, but they don’t have to be. Marc Brackett’s life mission is to reverse this course, and this book can show you how.

Feeling "Stuck" Caught in a vicious cycle and don't know how to break free? Lean how to become 'unstuck' and make your future brighter than your past. One of the most common reasons that people come in to therapy is because of what they describe as a feeling like being stuck. What that means is, being stuck is when essentially we know one thing up here, we know consciously the logical level, we realize reality, but there's something on the inside that just feels very, very different. We know what we should be eating, we know what we should be avoiding, we know what habits are bad for us, we know what habits are good for us, but despite knowing it up here something on the inside just keeps magnetically pulling us towards a different direction. Whereas the things that we know are good for us it's like something on the inside is kind of resisting, or repelling us away from those things. The thing I'd like you to take onboard here is to understand that it's a perfectly normal and natural part of the human condition to experience what we'd call inner conflict. In other words, where our head and our heart are sort of out of whack, and not playing on the same team. Whilst this is normal and very, very common it can also sometimes be very unhelpful. Especially when that inner conflict is either pulling us away from things that would really be in our best interest to be able to do, and especially when they're pulling us towards things that can be potentially self destructive. A Noted Psychologist Shows You How to...'Embrace Your Passion?Maximize Your Courage to Create?Identify and Overcome Personal Barriers?Awaken Your Natural Curiosity?Increase Your Emotional Intelligence to Create?Prepare to Be InspiredBernard Golden has provided a comprehensive manual of cognitive behavioral therapy for alleviating creative block. This book is a must-read for all students of creativity, as well as for writers, artists, inventors, and all individuals who feel their creative powers percolating just out of reach. It will become required reading for my course.-SHELLEY H. CARSON, Ph.D., HARVARD UNIVERSITY, Lecturer and Assistant Head Tutor, Psychology Instructor for the course Creativity: Madmen, Geniuses, and Harvard StudentsCreativity is one of life's great sources of fulfillment, whether it is expressed in the arts, science, business, or sheer entertainment. When we are at our creative best, we experience emotions of joy, excitement, anticipation, hope, and deep satisfaction. Unfortunately, for many people such moments of uninhibited creative drive are all too rare. Often, when we try to be creative, we also experience the inhibiting emotions of anxiety, self-doubt, judgmental attitudes, or even shame, guilt, and physical discomfort.Psychologist Bernard Golden helps us to be our authentic selves by pursuing our individual creative paths in this motivational guide. Filled with the insights and practical techniques culled from his almost thirty years as a psychotherapist, Unlock Your Creative Genius gives you the tools to unleash your creative imagination and manage the tension and negative mind-body reactions that often impede the creative flow.Golden first offers a variety of strategies that help the reader become aware of the often-unconscious obstacles to creative fulfillment. Among these are fear of failure; survivor's guilt, when friends or loved ones are ill or have died; the shame of failing to meet our own or others' unrealistic expectations; grandiose fantasies; problems with self-discipline; a pattern of dependency that impedes self-motivation; and an aversion to being alone even though creative expression usually demands time by ourselves. To counter these negative reactions, Golden provides guidelines to enhance positive emotions such as openness to change, trust, and the commitment essential for creativity. He also stresses the need to promote physical calm to offset tension and the importance of developing self-compassion, a vital resource in dealing with fear, shame, and guilt. This inspiring, helpful, and very practical book offers readers the freedom to live authentically as they access, accept, and act on their creative genius.Bernard Golden, Ph.D. (Chicago, IL), a clinical psychologist since 1977, is the author of Healthy Anger: How to Help Children and Teens Manage Their Anger and the coauthor (with Jan Fawcett, MD, and Nancy Rosenfeld) of New Hope for People with Bipolar Disorder.

Winner of a Books for a Better Life Award Many people who find themselves "stuck" in life are vaguely aware that fear is responsible for holding them back. Whether it's a fear of intimacy, mortality, success, or failure, the majority of us experience an inhibiting fear at some point in our lives. Naming these fears and examining them is critical to becoming aware of and, eventually, overcoming them. Life Unlocked - by Srinivasan S. Pillay, MD - draws from cutting-edge research in human psychology and neuroscience to illuminate the ways in which fear applies a brake to our movement through life. Informed by the latest breakthroughs in brain imaging and psychiatry, Dr. Pillay offers readers an enlightening understanding of how our brains work and physically process feelings of fear and anxiety. Based on this research, and his extensive clinical experience with patients, Dr. Pillay has developed 7 essential lessons to help move people past their fears: 1. What you don't know can hurt you 2. Dread is not something you feel; it is something you attend to 3. If it's hard to change, it is not unchangeable 4. We all know that we fear failure, but fear of success is equally relevant 5. Attachments are not just crucial to survival; they affect your physiology 6. Fear-based prejudice may register entirely outside of awareness 7. Trauma can impact the developing brain In Life Unlocked, Dr. Pillay examines a wide breadth of issues and shares real examples from his practice to show readers that when they are able to move past the things that limit them, they can truly unlock their potential, and their lives.
