In this paper, we investigate whether a firm’s composition of foreign liabilities matters for their resilience during economic turmoil and examine which characteristics determine a firm’s foreign capital structure. Using firm-level data, we corroborate previous findings from the (international) macroeconomic literature that the composition of foreign liabilities matters for a country’s susceptibility to external shocks. We find that firms with a positive equity share in their foreign liabilities were less affected by the global financial crisis and also less likely to default in the aftermath of the crisis. In addition, we show that larger, more open, and more productive firms tend to have a higher equity share in total foreign liabilities.

Capital Structure refers to the combination of debt and equity utilized in a business. There are different advantages and disadvantages of using both sources of finance, but basically, this combination is determined by different variables most important are size, profitability. Non Debt Tax Shield, tangibility, earning volatility and growth of an organization. This work is based on the data from Karachi Stock Exchange. Tangibility variable was found to be highly significant, which favors the Trade off theory. Size variable does not favor the Trade Off Theory. Profitability fails to confirm Pecking order Theory and Trade Off Theory. Growth variable does not confirm to the Agency Cost Theory and Earning volatility does not support Bankruptcy Cost Theory and Agency Cost Theory.

The article reviews Mauritius’ developments and its macroeconomic policies for the imminent years. The control of excess of liquidity and improvement in national savings will pave the way to reduce inflation pressures and external imbalances.

Using a dataset which breaks down FDI flows into primary, secondary and tertiary sector investments and a GMM dynamic approach to address concerns about endogeneity, the paper analyzes various macroeconomic, developmental, and institutional/qualitative determinants of FDI in a sample of emerging market and developed economies. While FDI flows into the primary sector show little dependence on any of these variables, secondary and tertiary sector investments are affected in different ways by countries’ income levels and exchange rate valuation, as well as development indicators such as financial depth and school enrollment, and institutional factors such as judicial independence and labor market flexibility. Finally, we find that the effect of these factors often differs between advanced and emerging economies.
