Excerpt from Research in Retail Merchandising of Farm Products: Appraisal of Methods and Annotated Bibliography From August 1916 to September 1958, over 200 publications presented results of research in retail store merchandising of agricultural products. 3/ This group of publications does not include consumer opinion, attitude, or preference studies, unless related to preferences for a particular merchandising method under sales test. Also, this group does not include the many studies on marketing charges which contain merchandising data, since these studies were not oriented primarily toward retail merchandising methods. Likewise, it does not include many articles in trade magazines reporting on merchandising tests, many of which were made by private firms. A number of research techniques have been used in studying merchandising problems in retail stores. Experimentation has produced usable research tools, which can lead to the development of principles of merchandising as well as to the solution of many practical merchandising problems. As one studies the literature reporting merchandising research results, one is impressed with the fact that accuracy of the findings depends largely on the methods of research and analysis employed. For this reason, the discussion is divided according to research techniques used. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
