The book first rigorously develops the theory of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. The authors then discuss the Pick problem of finding the function of smallest $H^infty$ norm that has specified values at a finite number of points in the disk. Their viewpoint is to consider $H^infty$ as the multiplier algebra of the Hardy space and to use Hilbert space techniques to solve the problem. This approach generalizes to a wide collection of spaces. The authors then consider the interpolation problem in the space of bounded analytic functions on the bidisk and give a complete description of the solution. They then consider very general interpolation problems. The book includes developments of all the theory that is needed, including operator model theory, the Arveson extension theorem, and the hereditary functional calculus.

This insightful examination of the history and extinction of one of Australia's most enduring folkloric beasts--the thylacine, (or Tasmanian tiger)-- challenges conventional theories. It argues that rural politicians, ineffective political action by scientists, and a deeper intellectual prejudice about the inferiority of marsupials actually resulted in the extinction of this once proud species. Results from national and international assessments indicate that school children in the United States are not learning mathematics well enough. Many students cannot correctly apply computational algorithms to solve problems. Their understanding and use of decimals and fractions are especially weak. Indeed, helping all children succeed in mathematics is an imperative national goal. However, for our youth to succeed, we need to change how we're teaching this discipline. Helping Children Learn Mathematics provides comprehensive and reliable information that will guide efforts to improve school mathematics from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The authors explain the five strands of mathematical proficiency and discuss the major changes that need to be made in mathematics instruction, instructional materials, assessments, teacher education, and the broader educational system and answers some of the frequently asked questions when it comes to mathematics instruction. The book concludes by providing recommended actions for parents and caregivers, teachers, administrators, and policy makers, stressing the importance that everyone work together to ensure a mathematically literate society.
