At the age of ten, a young Iranian girl witnesses the horror of her father's execution and escapes the revolution with her sister. Growing up in Tehran in the 1970s, Afschineh Latifi and her sister and two brothers enjoyed a life of luxury and privilege. Their father, a self–made man, had worked his way up from nothing to become a colonel in the Shah's army, and their mother, a woman of equally modest roots, had made a career for herself as a respected schoolteacher. But in February, 1979, Colonel Latifi was arrested by members of the newly installed Khomeini regime, and publicly pilloried as an "Enemy of God." Some months later, after having been shunted from one prison cell to another, and without benefit of a legitimate trial, Colonel Latifi was summarily executed. Fearing for the safety of her children, Mrs. Latifi made a wrenching decision: to send her daughters, ages ten and eleven, to the west, splitting up the family until they could safely reunite. Out on their own, Afschineh and her sister, Afsaneh, were forced to become strong young women before they'd even had a childhood. Even After All This Time is a story of hope and heartache, a story of a family torn apart for six harrowing years, and finally coming together to rebuild in America. In the richly evocative tradition of the bestselling Reading Lolita in Tehran, this is a story of a family that had the courage to dream impossible dreams and to make them come true against impossible odds.

I was born in January the year of 1934 to Dave, Ethel "Ashby" Estep. The first of their children of four. My father was a coal miner and was killed in a cave in 1942. My mother remarried a few years later and had a total of nine children. My mother was a God loving woman and had a lot to do with the way I have lived my life and the man I am today. I have spent most of my working life as an Industrial Electrician but have done just about every kind of work that the hands can do. I have been blessed by God to have been what they call a handy man. I started writing songs when I was about 73 years old and they just keep on coming to me after I bought a guitar seems I would hear the strings saying the words of the song. I got my first guitar when I was about 14 years old but hadn't played for many years. I have been blessed by God all through my life with a family that I love with all my heart and they have loved me with so many grand children and now the family is growing with many great grand children I can hardly keep up with the number. It dose the heart good to hear the word Grandpa. So to everyone who may buy or read this song book love one another and this world will be a much better place and put your trust in God to make it that way. Thank you very much and God bless you all.

For a brief explosive period in the mid-1970s, the young and the unemployed of Italy’s cities joined the workers in an unexpectedly militant movement known simply as Autonomy (Autonomia). Its “politics of refusal” united its opponents behind draconian measures more severe than any seen since the war. Nanni Balestrini, the poet of youth rebellion, himself a victim of that repression, has invented a remarkable fictional form to express the hopes and conflicts of the movement. In spare but vivid prose, The Unseen follows Autonomy’s trajectory through the eyes of a single working-class protagonist—from high-school rebellion, squatting and attempts to set up a free radio station to arrest and the brutalities of imprisonment. This is a powerful and gripping novel: a rare evocation of the intensity of commitment, the passion of politics.

On the eve of a secret military operation, an assassin’s bullet strikes President Seth Jerrison. He is rushed to the hospital, where surgeons struggle to save his life—and where Professor Ranjip Singh is experimenting with a device that can erase traumatic memories. Then a terrorist bomb detonates. In the operating room, the president suffers cardiac arrest. He has a near-death experience—but the memories that flash through Jerrison’s mind are not his own. The electromagnetic pulse generated by the bomb amplified and scrambled Professor Singh’s equipment, allowing a random group of people to access one another’s minds. One of those people can retrieve the President Jerrison’s memories—including classified information regarding the upcoming military mission, which, if revealed, could cost countless lives. But the task of determining who has switched memories with whom is a daunting one—particularly when some of the people involved have reason to lie…

3rd Edition-Revised | Age Level: 14 and up | Grade Level: 9 and upThe fate of his entire family seemed to be resting in his hands! For Phillip, living on the streets has never been easy, especially in New York City. Then again, when he volunteered to find his father, who has been missing for the last two and half years, stolen away in the middle of the night by a mysterious stranger, he knew the chance he was taking. After all, he was four hundred years and half a world away from home.To make matters worse, it seemed like those he'd been hiding from all this time, may have just found him- and he knew for a fact that they wanted him just as dead as the rest of his family. Steal his country and he'll hate you. Steal his time and he'll swear revenge, but steal his father, scatter his family and banish him to another time to steal his family's throne- hell hath no fury as an exiled prince scorned. An Excerpt from Heir of Nostalgia:"A dark mastiff," whispered Maggie, keeping the beast in sight the entire time. "In packs they are unstoppable. By themselves, however... We used to hunt them for sport," she said.At this point Phillip jumped in, "Surely you can do something. Look what you did with Feathers.""Mastiff and corbie, Phillip, two completely different creatures. Mastiffs are drawn from shadow and shade, sharp corners and angles. Corbie on the other hand." She was about to say something more when the wolf lunged. With one arm Maggie swept Theo and Phillip to one side, while striking out with her 'stick.' As soon as the 'tree branch' struck the great wolf it snapped in two and burst into flame and cinders. Steaming blood the color of night, the beast snapped wildly at them and withdrew.Fresh scarlet ran like a tear down Maggie's right cheek. She'd been quick, but the wolf had been quicker."Maggie!" Phillip cried, seeing the ragged gash across her forearm.ReviewsA new talent, states E. Finlayson of Staffordshire, UK. This book can be considered equally as a young adult book or an adult book. The plot is out of the usual and the writer builds both tension and atmosphere skillfully. Like other reviewers I could hardly put it down until it was finished, and I hope very much for a Book 2.AMAZING! Says Ron You feel like your right there beside the characters throughout their whole journey. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone ready for an adventure. There were times while reading this book that my heart would be beating faster. Can't wait for the next book in the series! HIGHLY recommend this book!

The purpose of the work/life balance series is to highlight particular challenges that higher education faculty face as they participate in the demands of the academy and try to prevent those demands from invading their personal lives. On The High Wire looks at a specific subset of university faculty, education faculty with school-aged children, and the specific professional/personal balance these faculty need to find. The title On the High Wire suggests the precarious nature of the “walk” for education faculty who are parents of school-aged children. We know that our identities are central to how we experience the world and how the world reacts to us. This reality is clearly visible in this book. These multiple identities and roles come into conflict at multiple points and in different ways. This book explores these identities and roles through autoethnographic accounts written by varied education faculty in order to make these tensions visible for the field to address.

Deepfake technology can create video evidence of just about anything: Hollywood superstar Margot Robbie in an orgy. Chinese president Xi Jinping declaring nuclear war. Basketball legend Michael Jordan winning the World Cup. The only limit is the imagination. In a time where fake news and disinformation is becoming harder and harder to identify, it is more essential than ever to understand the dark origins of deepfakes. Journalist Michael Grothaus goes down the rabbit hole as he interviews the often morally dubious, yet incredibly skilled creators of this content. It's a journey that opens a window into the communities transforming reality. Challenging, enlightening and terrifying, Trust No One asks the question other people are too scared to: what happens when you can no longer believe your own eyes? 'An alarming look at deepfakes' Sunday Times 'Michael Grothaus takes a hard look at the growth of deep fakes, examining cases that demonstrate the threats presented by morally dubious creators. From the personal to political, the impact of deep fakes is considered carefully by Grothaus, both on the victims and on society as a whole, creating an essential picture of a growing trend in disinformation' Eliot Higgins, founder of Bellingcat
